Wee bit boring is an understatement. I’ve been looking forward to this since it was announced, as I was a big fan of the book, but I could barely keep my eyes open. And it was so paint-by-numbers that I don’t feel like I missed anything. Might have to pass on this one.

Assuming you have the barest modicum of cooking skills, it is sooooooo easy to make at home. Tomatoes, onion, garlic, red pepper, and a few spices — cumin, paprika, etc -- that should be standard in anyone’s pantry, plus the eggs to finish it off. 

I had an Israeli friend visit and he made us shakshuka complete with non-runny eggs. It was still delicious, but I don’t understand why anyone in their right mind would want hard yolks in there. Anyway, long story short, I’ve made it twice now with soft yolks and I think mine is a million times better.

From what I can tell all the “bears” are straight dudes and I am very much not here for that
