I find it odd that this article suggests it would be difficult to adapt or film. Aside from the old-timey word for psychiatrist, it’s fairly straightforward historical fiction.
Portsmouth, OH, one town over from where my mother was born and my grandmother still lives. Charles Manson was born right across the river too. It’s not a great area.
Update: I did it for three weeks before moving to DC.
Claire Foy was FANTASTIC in Little Dorrit.
Ignatiy writes great reviews and is kind of adorable but he did the exact opposite of telling me to avoid Goodbye to Language at all costs and for that I can NEVER forgive him.
That Inside review is a great example of a time in the not-too-distant past when an AV Club article could get almost the same number of comments as end of year best of list does now. Thanks Kinja!
I tend to veer towards comfort food during cold weather -- pot roasts, stews, chili -- but I guess the most proper comfort food dish I made recently was my yearly batch of, yes, corn casserole. Will be making it again on Tuesday. And again on Christmas.
Do you have any advice on that? I’ve been trying to soft boil jumbo eggs in the instant pot and they’re never cooked enough. They peel great though!
This review was sorely lacking a callout to the DIRECT Twin Peaks reference.
Did anyone else notice how shitty the CGI was on the axe wound? It not only LOOKED fake but it didn’t even move properly along with the shirt/body.
Yeah, I like the Conjuring movies, but I find it much easier to suspend disbelief of ghosts/demons/etc than it is to suspend disbelief that the Warrens were completely full of shit. Funny how that works.

Jingle Jangle not being number 1 has rendered this list irrelevant.
Sufjan Stevens’ new Tonya Harding song is a blessing and I will not stop talking about it every chance I get
Yesterday Sufjan Stevens released a song about Tonya Harding and it’s so beautiful. I cried. Twice.
Honestly the most ridiculous part of this episode was the biker crowd booing AFTER Archie and Veronica stopped singing.
I have a soft spot for super greasy chinese takeout version. I went to my usual spot, conveniently down the street from my usual bar, on a drunken tear last night and the woman seemed genuinely concerned that I didn’t order my usual shrimp toast.
I finally caved and bought a tin last night. It’s everything you’ve described and more. I can’t get enough. It’s almost like... a drug.
I honestly think their method is superior to Netflix etc. Drop a few episodes to get people talking, then parcel them out once per week to keep that conversation going. So many shows that drop all of their episodes disappear after that first weekend binge, which surely has its own benefits -- Netflix wouldn’t be so…
