Totally agree with you-it was the headscarf ban after all. But I think some of that is that the veil is the most common public display of religious observances; basically if kufis were actually common than the ban may have gone after that instead.

It technically applies to ostentatious religious symbols like large crucifixes, but yup.

France banned all religious headgear (hijabs, Kufis, even yarmulkes so as not to single out Muslims) in public schools a while back. They’re pretty equal opportunity militant secularist over there.

Because there are already like 8? academic magnet schools in the city and it sounds like the principal is favoring the academically strong kids who should go to those schools over the artistically gifted kids LaGaurdia was intended to serve.

I’m a product of one of the academic specialized high schools and all aboard the leave LaGaurdia alone train. Like there are now 7 or 8 schools focused on top notch academics plus a host of charter schools, the BOE can afford to let LaGaurdia do its thing and maybe even expand the model so more kids from underserved…

Ugh, at this point he’ll, if he gains any traction, he’ll likely be splitting the anti-Trump vote further rather than touching the Trump vote. Last week drove off my mom’s stalwart economic Republican friends, so not even sure what’s left to pick off.
