Don’t defrost your meat in hot water, that’s dangerous. Defrost in cold. Cold running if you want it super fast, but if wasting the water bothers you (it bothers me), just let it hang out in cold water.

Lies. Defrost your meat in cold water. It takes way less time than you think. And once you’re in the habit you won’t even think. I get home from work, toss whatever meat I need to defrost in cold water, do a bunch of other stuff, and by the time I’m ready to cook so is it.

Years of living alone have taught me really interesting ways to use leftovers that aren’t “meant” to be leftovers. Invest in a few good cookbooks, don’t be afraid to take chances with leftover ingredients that seem weird, and when in doubt just make it into fried rice.

In response to all the canned veg hate here, Italian Green Beans in a can are motherfucking delicious and one of my favorite snacks. You can heat them up but you don’t need to — just open the can, drain the brine, grab a fork and go to town.

Totally agreed on the pumpkin. It took 3 sugar pumpkins and a lot of work the year I decided to make a pumpkin pie FULLY from scratch and it made no noticeable difference at all. If you’re worried about controlling seasoning just make sure you’re buying canned pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling. Problem solved.

There’s no question that mass shootings have been steadily on the rise as our gun laws have gotten less strict and the NRA has gotten more powerful, but I don’t know that I’d agree that it correlates with an actual decline in serial killers. I think there’s a couple things at work here:
