@lorensingley: They give you a minute to sit back and go "whoa."

@SGTalon: Yeah, exactly. Shit, charge them interest and send them to collections. At least put out the damned fire.

@2nd White Line: Well, the fact of the matter is that FD fees have been around since long before public FD existed. Small and/or rural communities don't have the funds or manpower to cover the necessary area from tax revenue alone, and so never switched over to publicly-funded departments.

@mkant: Their insurance may not cover the damage if they weren't paying their fire department bill. When you get homeowners insurance they ask if you have access to a fire department and, if so, if you have to pay for the service. I believe if you don't pay the FD and your house burns down the insurance company

@nobodyr: Depending on the shade of blonde you want you do add color back in, just not very much. A cooler blonde you'll add blue, for a warmer blonde you'll add red or yellow.

@kimberlymaybe: Ugh, kids. My dog is very suspicious of little kids and tends to bark at them, so whenever I see kids around I go into management mode with my dog and basically avoid any interaction at all. One time a toddler started running up to us, screaming about the doggy, while his parents were about 15 feet

@bazcat: Cesar has some good ideas, but I agree that for the vast majority of at-home trainers his methods are inappropriate at best and dangerous at worst. One thing he does that I wholeheartedly approve of is encourage that dogs get tons of exercise appropriate to their disposition and age, another is he teaches

@lascuba: She's probably not *that* conservative, given that she provided the Daily Show crew safe haven when they were running from security at the Republican National Convention a couple years ago.

I love John Oliver. He looks like a character from a Nick Park animation. (That's a good thing.)

Wouldn't looking at a world where every object is in focus all the time be horrible? We rely heavily on the depth of field that comes with a single plane of focus to know what we're looking at, where it is in space and how to interact with it.

@socaladmin: The comment was in regards to swimming away once the car was in the water, not preventing the car from going in the water in the first place.

@Zanzan42: And the average person knows these things how? I certainly didn't know them.

@Faslane: It's not exactly easy to escape a sinking car, with thousands of gallons of water pushing against the doors.

@MissMollyKate: But where does one draw the line between a blogger and "the media?" Similarly, having a huge audience puts the writer in a position of authority, and makes her a de facto "expert." I'm not saying every fitness blogger needs to tiptoe to avoid triggering an anorexic, but s/he should understand their

@MissMollyKate: The issue here isn't that there's a discussion about weight and health, it's that it's published for the world-at-large, where tips that are healthy for some could encourage disordered behavior in others. While I realize it would be anarchy to expect every person who posts on the internet to police

wrt to the percentage of women reporting an orgasm during their most recent sexual encounter: if I'm not in a relationship, I'm only having sex to get off. If I'm in a relationship, I may have sex to get my partner off even if I'm not terribly interested in an orgasm. There's zero incentive for selfless sex in a one
