I don’t know. Editorial and ad sales are two very separate teams (thank god); I’m not involved with the latter.

All of these details are coming soon! I want to make sure I’m thorough, so this was just an intro post.

Ford isn’t directly paying for this project. They’ve made an ad deal with my company, who has given me a budget for this build. I’ll source whichever parts I need.

My initial thought is to avoid going piecemeal, and

Slow down!

Ford is just going to be advertising on this build.

I won’t be using Ford parts unless the company offers us some.

Frankly, I agree.

Frankly I think that trailer it’s on is a better starting point.

These are the sorts of questions I want to know!

This. Don’t overthink it. Keep the 3-speed because that takes care of getting power to all the wheels. From the looks of things, the electrification of this vehicle will be the easy part...by far.

Project Lockjaw.

If you can’t give yourself tetanus just looking at it, it’s not a David Tracy Project ™

Which components will I use in my EV conversion? How will I get all of those components to work together in a system? How will I set up the four-wheel drive system?

Sir, you have just guaranteed that I will be coming back to Jalopnik for months (years?) to see how this turns out.

Were any early decisions made regarding using new, drop-in aftermarket systems vs scavenging wrecked EVs? All of one or the other/mix of both?

I hate you because I want an FC badly, but at the same time I’m not crazy enough to get myself into a project like this.

I’ve used these a half dozen times on my projects. They are great when space to work is at a premium, but a lineman’s splice with solder followed up with glued heat shrink is primo

While I’m sure a GOOD solder joint is better than these, I really really suck at soldering. I never get any better, because I hate doing it. My clumsy fat fingers always end up getting burned. I bet these are a lot better than my crappy solder joints.  I’ve yet to try them, but I definitely should give them a shot

A 2002 LX470 has been my on and off daily driver/weekend vehicle since 2015 and has been the best auto I’ve ever owned. I’ve had an 88' XJ and a 98' 5.9 ZJ and they pale in comparison to the 100. With the time you save swapping sensors out on the Jeeps, you’ll be able to start a new hobby. That new hobby spending

The AX-15 reverse gear isn’t synchronized, so that grinding is normal. Don’t let that poor bloke negotiate himself down.
