Haha, yeah, sometimes it feels ridiculous to care about fictional characters this much. Then I remember that actually, it speaks to deep-seated tropes about masculinity and its entanglement with violence, so that violence becomes an admirable and desirable trait in men.

Er. If you've read the books, it becomes apparent that her primary interest is not the choice of mate, but survival.

UGH Thank you! I have a lot of issues with Gale, and not only because of all that goes down in the end of Mockingjay. Anyway I can't help but have a problem with the idea that Katniss actually made a choice between the two of her potential love interests. Reading the books I never saw the choice (Gale vs. Peeta)

I agree. I felt like Gale loved the Katniss that he wanted her to be and that Peeta actually loved who she was.

Ditto. About halfway through Catching Fire I was like 'ugh, get over yourself Gale' and now every time I re-read I find myself more and more exasperated by him.

I've always seen Gale and Peeta's roles as not being a flippant love-triangle, and it sickens me a little that that is the part of the books we focus on. There's a revolution going on and lives are at stake, yet the romance is what people notice? That's not the point of the series.

Basically every point you made is the reason that I went from Team Gale in book 1 to Team Peeta by book 3, IF Katniss wished to choose that is.

Even once I put down Mockingjay I never really felt that Katniss chose Peeta over Gale. Honestly it just seemed like they grew closer together and their relationship naturally

SPOILERS AHOY- BE FOREWARNED

So, book spoilers and all.

I totally read the Gale/Peeta conflict as Katniss being forced choose not between her masculine and feminine sides, but between her inner warrior and her inner pacifist.

I feel that the book handled this Peeta/Gale thing really well, putting her IN a relationship WITH neither (until the end). For most of her story, she lives in relationship TO the characters, where survival and not love, is her primary goal.

Yeah calling women "girls" doesn't really bother me in a lot of contexts. That's my girl, girls' night out, girls and guys. Obviously it's terrible to do it in a work context or when it's uneven (ie, "I'm meeting with the girl in charge of accounting and the men from logistics")

Katy Perry, hands down. I wouldn't let John Mayer anywhere near my junk.

Because "calm your tits" is what needs to be said to the person saying, "hey, let's just settle down before posting a bunch of shit calling a bunch of people racists with zero information other than a screenshot" ....NOT the people who are.... well, calling a bunch of people racists with zero information other than a

Completely agree. I lubs me some Jezebel, but sometimes the editors drive me nuts. Some of the time they are dead on the mark, like with that freaky Romeo dude who turned out to be a bigger asshole then we ever imagined... then sometimes its a complete fake, like the gay waitress.

You are missing the point. Jezebel does this so all the benevolent "Jezzies" can respond with remarks indicating how anti-racist they are. Instead of a dog whistle, it is a signal for all the wounded fragile "I'm a good person" white girls to collectively pat themselves on the back.

Hey man, don't stand in the way of some faux outrage!

Actually, as a bisexual woman, I can say that plenty of people doubt our existence as well. When I was a teen people said I was just "experimenting" and then when I got older I was accused of being afraid to just admit to being a lesbian. As a hard 3 on the Kinsey scale, I wish I could convince people that their

Last time there was an article up on bisexuality someone said it so succinctly: If a girl is bi they assume she is straight but looking for attention, if a guy is bi they assume he is gay but doesn't want to admit it yet. No matter what the penis trumps the vagina.

Oh sigh I kinda was hoping Tom Cruise would start dating John Travolta.
