Nothing new here. Disdain for female biological functions related to reproduction (pregnancy, childbirth, menstruation, etc) is a big part of male (yes, I am talking about people who are biologically male) “culture”.

Right? If we can assume that midwives are women, I feel like, as a society, we can assume people giving birth are women. I mean, if you—somehow—run into a man giving birth, just be chill about it. But I don’t think we have to rewrite the entire way we talk about birth to accommodate the statistically insignificant…
I felt that way about the trans pushback against the Pussy Hat thing. The women’s marches were about access to women’s healthcare services. I don’t think it was helpful or positive to have people interjecting with the fact that you can be a woman without having a pussy, in that specific moment. We were marching for…
I am beginning to feel uncomfortable with what seems like an attempt to erase women, or biologically female humans, from things that only biologically female humans do. Biologically female humans have the babies, and we can’t pretend like there is no such thing as a female human or a male human—even if people who are…
I actually think this is silly and super performative on the mom’s part. Acknowledging your baby’s apparent biological sex doesn’t mean gender norms or even a gender has to be forced on them. If everything looks standard down below, as the vast majority of genitals do, you can tell what sex the kid is with great…
I don’t suppose it matters on the birth certificate, but it does seem a little foolish to just pretend sex has no relationship to health. You don’t need to force anything on a child, but that is medically necessary information regardless of what gender, if any, the child identifies with.
I agree completely. It’s hard. Terribly hard...but if your body can’t keep you alive due to a terminal non curable or treatable disease, then you should not be alive.
I read elsewhere that the experimental procedure the parents want (which has not even been tested in mice) would have zero chance to improve his brain function even in the most miraculous of best-case scenarios. This is Terry Schiavo all over again. The brain matter is irreparably damaged, full stop.
I don’t really want to wade into a squabble about this or anything, but I would - to a degree - argue that it is us who are obsessed with “Becky.”
Totally agreed that it would suck hard to come across a house you already bought on the site. On the other hand maybe a some of the people who read her site will leave with new knowledge that will help them avoid buying a shoddy house and get into someplace that will be a good home for decades to come.
Especially since there are black women with real acting chops that have followed after. Halle Berry...not so much.
No
I don’t have the energy to deal with this right now.
I HATED this movie. He’s your best friend but you clearly haven’t communicated with him in ages and haven’t met his fiancee and don’t know he’s engaged? And trust me nobody knew the words to Say A Little Prayer back then to all join in a singalong. The only thing that was good was Cameron Diaz ending up happy. Blech.
I hated hated hated this movie. These people don’t inhabit the same planet as the one I’m from and there is nothing likable about Julia’s character at all. She gets away with being awful because she’s cute and has a gay friend, but this is the kind of person you cut out of your life with prejudice.
For Stein and her stooge...
I’ll victim blame. You can be a victim and it can also be your fault. Should anywhere ever be beaten? No. Did you go to a notoriously evil country that’s politically paranoid that hates America? Yes. Is what happened unexpected? No. Americans have famously been detained in North Korea. Lisa Ling’s sister for one.
I think he was very foolish for taking the trip, even if he hadn’t been imprisoned and even if this hadn’t been the outcome. Literally the best case scenario is that you get to leave the country intact.
Not right now we aren’t.
i was born a black woman in america and i wouldn’t use the phrase “loving and welcoming” to describe it (at least regarding certain demographics). my own personal opinion.
