Statistics have proven the opposite. Poor people disproportionately play the lottery spending a relatively significant sum. Many lottery winners (mult-million ones) end up significantly worse off. Many end up worse off financially, some even in debt. They are more likely to end up as addicts of something.

As stated in previous threads, it depends on the state. Many states require that they announce a name and post a picture. Some states allow third parties and/or anonymous claiming.

Apparently a big reason why many states do not allow anonymous claiming is transparency. They want to show that anyone can win. Otherwise, there’s a chance that it’s their “friend” who “randomly” wins.

The unfortunate downsize is that now everyone knows you won, and people come out of the woodwork begging for money.

I never thought about that! I ventured into prescription sunglasses for the first time a few years ago (cheap ones online) because I stopped wearing my contact lenses full time. There were little to none big-ish sunglasses. I’m on the middle range of prescriptions. I was forced to order a pair that were very much like

It does take some time, but there are various discounts (some are restricted to students, others have online lotteries).

Here’s a great resource on the various discount policies for most/all(?) of the Broadway plays/musicals.

There are discounts (TKTS) and (same day) lotteries, but it’s still a pretty expensive event. And of course, it’s virtually impossible to see the popular, sold-out plays/musicals. I just wish they would curb scalping.

And many people go to see touring and local productions. Local, usually amateur, productions can be

She comes off as the stereotypical musical theater nerd. So I can see why some people are turned off by her.

She’s a very good singer and songwriter (I can’t really judge her range of acting but she’s very good in her role in “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend).

I’m aware of his Broadway cred (he’s been in several plays), but I think his live singing is.. passable.

I did enjoy his impressions. They were amusing. He wasn’t the best, but I guess there have been worse hosts.

I think they have tried various methods. This year, they had the playwrights describe their plays (was it just the original ones and not the revivals?).

As one point in time, they have had very short clips of plays or the main actors describe their plays. Im not sure what really works.

The show is a big advertisement

Many schools around the world require a foreign language, sometimes two (usually English and something else).

Latin is a great language to learn if you’re interested in any of the romantic languages and even learning more about English if that’s your first language.

I made the colossal mistake of taking Latin 1 and Spanish 3 where I simultaneously learned verb conjugations. That was a horrible mistake.

I saw a majority of this the other day, for the very first time. It was pretty cool. It seemed a lot of the courses relied on balance (duh) and upper body strength. I can see why a lot of the competitors were amateur/professional mountain rock climbers.

Maybe it depends on the insurance company. I’ve been with Geico for a few years and it is one of the questions asked. I’ve helped older new drivers get insurance and their initial rate is always higher. I do think it drops down more quickly than someone in their teens/early 20s with a new license.

Bill Clinton was in his 40s. Al Gore was in his 50s I think.

Public transportation is horrible in most of the U.S.

I’ve lived in the DC metro area for the past 10+ years. Unless you plan to live, work, and play within walking distance of a metro station (subway), you need a car.

Public transportation is technically available everywhere, but only highly available (bus comes every

Looking at your total financial picture is a good idea. Many people live in expensive areas because of commute time and accessibility. If you live in an area with no car, you might be the same off as someone with a car that lives a little further (cheaper) away.

This is a great idea. One of the questions that insurance asks you is the history of your driving history. New drivers (no matter the age) are always penalized and have higher rates.

If you can afford the process (getting a license and maintaining costs money), this is very helpful and can save you a lot of money in

It depends on the state, but I find that the driving tests (both written and “on the road”) tend to be pretty easy in the U.S.

Most (all?) of the newer restrictions are on minors (night driving, limitations of passengers, number of practice hours).

Once you get your license, it’s pretty easy to transfer it to any other

I visited in March. I got same day tickets online by waking up at 6:30AM. They were actually sold out 2-3 minutes later.

I’m local, so I might visit again in a few years. It was a lovely experience, but the museum is just too crowded. The more historical parts of the museum are very crowded, and I felt like I was just

This is great! I was an avid reader in my childhood, and it disappointed me to see no characters like me in books.

The author is right. There are very Asian characters books where the focus of the character isn’t about his/her Asian-ness. The Joy Luck Club, while well written and fun to read, was a big hot mess.

For me,
