Great story. I love stories with unlikely camping vehicles. One of my favorite Jalopnik articles was about a meeting dude who was camping in the outback/wilderness or something with only his trusty Geo Metro and some supplies while they were testing a hot-shit new Ford or Ram truck. Good stuff.

Counterpoint: Piss-off Asshole!!

Hahahaha

True, but then if I source it from out of state, I have to worry about lack of support servicing at local dealerships.

I believe the image you posted is the rear of the concept version, not the actual version. The pic here is the actual rear, if that works any better:

I so want this car. I think it looks great, is practical and at least on paper this seems to be a solid effort on the part of GM. The extra range is just icing on the cake.

But that chart might be assuming highway miles only, not accounting for city driving, stop-and-go driving, or hilly terrain.

Nice bit of Trek trivia there. Glad to see Jalopnik getting in on the 50th Anniversary fun as well.

Hmm... I’d say nice. If i was a bit more of a gearhead, I might just jump on it mainly because I love the style. But I can see how the price might be a bit too much, so it’s kind of a tough call for me.

May I suggest a 2008-2010 model Ford Focus? There seems to be lots of these to choose from which have relatively low mileage, are well within the stated budget, reliable, and cheap to fix. Also, this offers good visibility, maneuverability and a small footprint for the inevitable city driving.

Nice comic, where did you get this?

Not an expert, but I would think that the higher pollution is just a consequence of population and population density since CA is one of the most populated states.

Yeah, the Eyesight in particular is what I was thinking of. Interesting.

It’s possible that this could just reflect “ideal world” survey responses ng an ideal world, and have nothing to do with reality.

What is likely to be a solid EV entry judging by the Volt’s record, is probably going to be sabotaged by a combination of GM-rollout bungling and dealership disinterest. A self-fulfilling prophecy of high-priced, low initial orders by dealerships who have no real interest in selling them over more service-heavy ICE

Gonna throw this out there:

Neutral: Is Ford On The Money Here?

As I’m riding by...“What, you’re surprised someone *else* MIGHT want to use a public trail!?”

I disagree. If no one ever buys EVs or hybrids or something that minimizes the use of fossil fuels, then all we’ll have to choose from are gas-guzzlers. There would be no demand for “green” vehicles, therefore they would not be manufactured, and people who have to drive would be limited in their choices to only

I’m imagining an alternate reality where the EV1 wasn’t killed, but got moved to Saturn and that brand became Chevy’s EV-focused line. Even the name, “Saturn”, just sounds right for an EV brand...
