Agree. Aftermarket products are a thing.  If you think of it that way a lot of this naysaying gets pretty ridiculous.

Well I assume, it IS a flat fee, if you sub to the Patreon get the mod then unsub from the Patreon.

Even if you don’t have a group of people working on a particular mod, there is tons of prior knowledge. Given that Starfield is based on the same engine that Beth has been using for 20 years, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that a lot of the leg work for figuring out how everything works was done already and wasn’t

I say this not as a PC gamer, but why in the hell shouldn’t someone be compensated for their work on a mod?

Please make the distinction that when we say ‘flying is safe and driving to the airport is more dangerous’ we are talking about Commercial flying. This is anything but that.

When you start talking game engines you also should be thinking about the underlying language that you’re required to be proficient in to use it. Unreal uses C++, and Unity uses C#. I don’t know which language the RED engine uses... Ah I see... They used C++ for the RED engine so they'll be fine.

Most of these are bunk. because they aren’t actually in your control. It’s not a matter of being “ready” for self-checkout, and it’s problematic to write this etiquette listicle implying people are making a choice out of convenience or efficiency.

Customers pitting themselves against workers—a capitalism specialty

yeah it feels shitty to take it out on the DEVS for delivering something when it’s more specifically going to be the higher ups (directors etc) pushing them to do the thing.

The developers don’t control marketing.

But the thing is, the workers on the game making the assets, etc. are unlikely to be phoning it in. The game’s success determines their continued employment.

My favourite take on any of this is always ‘the devs are greedy shits’ as if they can control the state of the projects they work on to any impactful degree past the ticket of work they’ve got to slave over for that particular missed tea with their loved ones this weekend.

Except that fire can be shown to others and leaves evidence of it’s existence behind even after it’s gone.

I believe they are referring to the video game market.

I’m talking specifically video game market not total company revenue. including total company revenue would make comparisons inaccurate. for example say google opened a single hot dog stand. if you just go by total company revenue google then becomes the biggest hot dog company in the world even though they only own

I am basing it on Video Game market share + revenue. when looking at a market you focus on the market itself with any additional utility tools the company has outside that market. in this case the primary outside influences Microsoft potentially has is Bing and their cash on hand. including market share for Operating

Nonsense.

Sorry perfect your device in private? how TF is that supposed to work? When do you decide it is good enough?

I apologize, I read your comment as a rebuttal to my comment rather than agreement and was like “WTF?”, but that was my mistake. I hope you have a wonderful evening filled with good things.

Sure, but an engine plugin reduces the workload considerably.
