I didn’t open the ‘rules’ tab so I’m not entirely sure how these were scored. I was happy to see Raising Arizona on the list, and I don’t think Blood Simple is considered a bad movie by most people.

Ah just thinking about Moreno singing that song at the end makes me tear up.  In the theater I just lost it--such a huge moment for her and the one of the few true downsides to the first film -the casting choices and the fact that they dubbed Moreno’s voice....along with darkening her skin.  Felt like it was a such a

Agreed—I’ve had issues with a few of his movies (though “The Prestige” is my favorite of his, so far as deftness of directing a story far more intricate than it seems on the surface) but have to agree his directing is superb in nearly everything. And even my issues are more  “eh this didn’t really work for me” than

I think you’re confusing the Oscars with the MtV movie awards--pretty sure those are the ones for cultural relevance (and I expect Barbie will fucking clean up on those popcorn bucket things!).

yeah it’s weird, right?  did some corporate lawyer asshat start scanning random sites avatars and decide there was too much copyrighted material?   At least let me choose my pixel color, man--come on!

While I understand that there has to be a cut off somewhere, and a Best Picture nomination doesn’t necessarily mean (or warrant) a Best Director nomination, shouldn’t the Academy at least consider expanding that category to a ‘possibility’ of 10 nominees. Just on the off chance that all the BP nominees are so

Haha well I love new comments like this for a film I truly loved. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t re-enacted the ‘cool’ scene from the original a few hundred times growing up...so glad you enjoyed the parts you saw. Even on a small screen it holds up and I whole-heartedly recommend watching it all (though the

Definitely on the list, under the all time champion “Schindler’s List”

Haha well I have moments like that when I thought I was paying attention then realized I was thinking about other stuff through the last 20 minutes and have no idea what’s going on...sigh...rewind to the point I can remember and go “Okay what the fuck are we talking about here?”  Sadly it’s much more common as the

That typo is so perfect it almost feels intentional.

I’d put it a notch or two under “Midsommar” for ‘under your skin and crawling around’ vibes, but only a that much. It’s definitely some mind fuckery. “Kill List” is one I would add to this list as well.

I’m with you in that I really enjoyed “Creep”—thought it was well made, well acted and a great ‘slow burn’, ‘something is not quite right here’ film that really did well with the slow ramp up in intensity. The ending still fucks with my head. I don’t remember much of ‘Creep II” so I guess it didn’t leave quite the

I think Turtles is a lock for a nomination as it is genuinely a good movie.  Spiderverse is a lock as well.  But those two are nominees--Boy and the Heron will absolutely win this.  I can’t fathom another movie even really challenging it.

Well it was sold to me as a ‘labor of love’ by all parties involved so that’s how I choose to see it.

Couldn’t agree more. I’d give it every technical award if I could just knowing how great it looks for how little money it was made for. One of my absolute favorite movies of last year for sure, and it caught me completely by surprise (I only even went because one of my sons is a Godzilla nerd and asked to go on

I haven’t been able to convince myself to watch “Beau is Afraid” yet, mostly because I absolutely love “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” so much and have seen enough of the reviews to know there’s just no way this movie can live up to the heights of those two.  I will, eventually, I’m sure, but I may need to read more

I mostly agree, though I genuinely love “The Darjeeling Limited” and have never quite been able to put my finger on exactly why--especially considering the reviews for that one aren’t as kind as most Anderson films.  Speaking of which, he’s one director that seems to have a very wide span between ‘critics scores’ and

I’ve found that I absolutely have to be in a ‘Wes Anderson’ mood before watching any of his movies or I find them absolutely insufferable and full of themselves. If I’m in the mood they delight me to no end. I’ve yet to be in the Anderson mood since the release of this film and that’s after a couple of ‘false starts’.

Having watched “The Leftovers” I’ve seen more than enough of Eccleston, thank you very much.  Not his acting, mind you, as he was terrific in that show.

Yeah I wouldn’t call anything about that scene ‘sexy’, which is obviously intentional.
