Oh I see--you’re always like this.  Well...good luck with that.

Right? I mean, it didn’t make my personal list of best movies of the year, but I certainly enjoyed watching it—even if I rolled my eyes a few times (it was quite the lucky coincidence they had those planes that he just happened to be great at flying sitting around with the keys in them in the very un-defended base,

Tom Cruise as a Filipino rice farmer contemplating death?  It’s either box office suicide or box office gold but I’d hat to wager on which.

To be fair I have not seen Blanchett’s film yet, but I have no doubt she is excellent, as always. She’s 53 and has EIGHT nominations already.   That in itself is pretty amazing.

Well that’s fairly elitist. Us was very good and the direction was fantastic, but the ending deserves the criticism. The individual ‘twist’ is fine, but the Hands Across America bit loses the thread.

I think that was 100% the argument for expanding the field to 10 movies--squeeze in a few popular films so more people would watch the ceremony (and hopefully be exposed to the smaller, better films on the list).

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon did not get nearly enough love from the Academy as that film is a masterpiece.

It’s on Showtime at the moment. It’s also available through less legal means. Honestly it’s hard to recommend Showtime, though, as the streaming interface legit looks like it was created by a 3-year-old. It is the single worst streaming interface I’ve ever used (yes, even worse than Amazon Prime). But it does appear

I have a hard time imagining this isn’t Michelle’s year and it is 100% deserved. I watched EEAAO again this past weekend and it’s just a terrific movie, and it’s all anchored by her performance (as well as Ke Huy Quan, who is the real heart of this movie) which comes across even better on subsequent viewings. Playing

If only Vin Diesel had known this.

It’s pretty weird to think about since there are so few movies that more than a handful in a series that aren’t horror movies, but I’d say the Mission Impossible series is the only one where the movies get better with each new entry.

Se7en is an interesting one, to be sure, as it would have only taken a few minor script adjustments to turn it from a ‘crime thriller’ to straight up horror.

ZOD HAS SPOKEN!

I would have loved to see her on the list as she very much deserved it, but I’d have been shocked as well.  The Academy doesn’t watch horror films.

Having watched it again this past weekend, you are wrong.  You are, of course, welcome to your opinion.  But that opinion is wrong.

Ever since the expansion to 10 nominees (possible) there’s often been one or two box office leaders in the nominations, but I don’t think any of them ever won. I’m pretty sure that’s what Top Gun and Avatar are doing here.  It’s the Academy’s way of saying “Hey, thanks for making money, here’s a nomination—now leave

The real Star Wars formula is to just make whatever crap you want, then give Dave Filoni a few years of various TV shows to eventually make them better. If he could make the prequels seem better than they actually were, he can do anything.

I never understand these questions. It’s always going to come down to quality—just like any genre of movie. Maybe the ‘built in’ audience that goes on opening weekend just because it’s Marvel might wane, but if they make good, entertaining films then people will keep going. I can’t ever picture a time that they’ll

“Womble Dodgers” would be a great 1980's era British punk band name.
