Just started reading it, but already "I saw the real you. Let’s just be friends." is some of the coldest shit I've ever read…

So far the show has toned that down a bit….so far.

I get what you mean, although I'm intrigued by the idea of him having a somewhat human side, since he's essentially a cartoon in the books.

"You've just given me a great….I mean, yes, that's it! Of course that's what it means!"

Compared to his later work I totally agree, and admittedly it's been a while since I've read Preacher so maybe I'm attributing some of his later excesses to the wrong series, but I feel like the "tone" fits Ennis.

Don't get me wrong—I'm a fan (I loved The Boys as a send up of comics, and War Stories and Battlefields are just terrific) but you have to admit there's just no way some of the things he does on the page just would not translate to the screen without seeming crazy-over-the-top to the point of silly. So far I think

There are not enough good things in this world that can be said about Planetary. I read at least portions of that series about every six months.

That is more disconcerting.

With Seth Rogan producing there was probably never too much danger of it being overly serious. Didn't realize he "co-directed" this as well until the episode started. It was surprisingly well done.

Yeah—trying to avoid spoilers myself (though it does seem that the two will have more screen time next week, even if it's not made entirely clear what their nature will be).

It's been years for me, though watching this made me consider giving it a re-read.

Yeah, but personally I'm okay with that. Less Garth Ennis is not necessarily a bad thing—-particularly since this book was Ennis at his most Ennis, if you know what I mean.

They just started that this season actually. I don't watch any of them so I can't tell you if it's any good or not, but it's out there.

I love GoT and was counting the days until this show started. So I guess there's one person that overlaps…

Ever since the DVR was invented I only have a vague idea of what day shows come on, much less what time. I moved to central time not too long ago and it really hasn't phased my TV watching schedule at all, except for missing the first hour of most live sports for the first six months or so that I lived here…

That was my assumption too.

While I really enjoyed the comic, it's definitely an overdose of Ennis. Any adaptation of his has to be toned down—it's a perfect case of something working okay in one medium and being too much for another. I assume they're already working on how to make "The Boys" work for TV (even if it did get optioned by a pay

Sounds like a double bill at an all-night rave to me.

Yep—pretty much earned an A from me with the words "Tom Cruise Explodes" on the newscast. Also, Cassady was terrific, and he needs to be for this show to have any hope of working. So far I love it.

Yeah—they basically left him out of last season altogether, so it's been two years since we've seen any of his story…
