It does kinda make sense to me. It forces a choice between instant or delayed gratification. It'll likely polarise players, but I think ultimately will highlight two types of RPG player in a way we haven't yet thought of.

I got mage, assassin, tank and hero. Despite the trope I'm still excited about the possibilities of building a classic well-rounded RPG party. Now I only hope that the skill progression doesn't go all Diablo 3 on us.
