It’s as stupid as boycotting a company and destroying their products THAT YOU ALREADY PAID FOR

Oh no, Republican politicians are pulling out of races in Colorado in solidarity with Trump? Oh noooooooo.....

Because it doesn’t fit the narrative that The Marvels failed because of misogyny, the patriarchy, etc. Which is this articles sole purpose.

Fandoms are all about forming your identity around a piece of consumable pop-culture, so any attack on or failure on that piece of IP that is your whole self feels personal

It’s pretty simple. Because The Marvels is a failure on the level of what theatrical Marvel movies are supposed to be. And is troubling from the point of view of the health of their entire market segment.

Seriously, why didn’t the person also ask why was Flash a bomb at 50+ Million!?

Wonka also pulled in its dollars despite the fact movie musicals are on the outs nowadays

Yikes, does something this self-evident really need to be explained to people? If so, let me add that Wonka has already made $150 mil globally, and is on pace to make more globally than The Marvels by, likely, a hefty amount. It will be more successful irrespective of budgets.

I’m not sure I buy this, because it implies that JJ Abrams actually had even a vague plan about what would happen in the sequel trilogy.

Yep. And despite plenty of people pointing out that it seems like there was no overall plan for the trilogy, I’ve yet to hear about Kennedy or anyone else involved suggesting otherwise. It really does seem like their plan was to just let Abrams/Johnson/Trevorrow each make their own movie and the three entries were

It’s just wild to me that there wasn’t a firm plan in place for this trilogy before setting out. Like the whole Marvel Endgame arc was clearly pretty well planned out and through some highs and lows they ended up with a fairly cohesive and very entertaining long term story but for some reason there wasn’t enough

Which is especially shitty given what a great cast they put together for the new characters. Along with Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all charming as fuck and they had great chemistry together.

Yeah, this is weird because I think the Kylo Ren story is the most engaging part of the third trilogy. I get everyone wants to bitch about the movies, but this seems... weak?

His character arc was the one I liked. And the one that existed because no one else seemed to have one.

The dude seems a little too interested in expanding out his cartoons in live-action form.

if Andor is any indication, they should’ve given the job to someone who barely likes Star Wars.

If the live-action SW shows he’s been involved with are any indication, then I don’t see myself paying much attention to Star Wars in the future.

My favorite line:

It actively drives me crazy how misused Bury Your Gays gets used by wokescolds online, especially as someone who makes and consumes a lot of queer-themed horror work.

As a queer person, I didn’t read it as a Bury Your Gays at all – they didn’t die because of homophobic brutality or tragedy, they died because they were old and content, it’s really the most beautiful, sweet, and sad episode of TV I’ve seen in a long time.
