That’s quite something, coming from you.
That’s quite something, coming from you.
Er, hyperbole works better with word-statements than numbers-I-pulled-out-of-my-ass statements. Everything else you’ve said I agree with completely.
You’ve been trotting out a dubious stat that there is a 2% chance that someone with the character’s ethnic background could look like Emma Stone. I’m curious as to how you arrived at that exact number. You’re being a little dismissive of people who are telling you that actual Hapa and mixed-race people can look white…
I haven’t seen all of her movies, but she was awesome in Zombieland, delightful in Spiderman (in as far as she could do, with the writing) and I hear she was nominated for some big fancy acting prize in Birdman. Emma Stone is currently a big deal star- A-list, depending on your metrics. I think he studio wanted to…
Hey, there’s a difference between defending something and explaining it.
Never saw Bradley Cooper in any of his tv work, knew nothing about his personal life (except for the persistent rumours that he’s actually geigh and using the famous ladies as beards). I liked him a lot in “Limitless.” Emma.... she just has a likeable charisma, the camera loves her, and her acting is just fine.…
I for one would LOVE this to happen. More Daniel Dae Kim, please! Bring on all the John Cho movies! Please cast Ming Na and Zhang Ziyi in big-deal movies! Because that would be boss.
...wow. Gorgeous!
I saw a trailer for it last week and I was all “HELL no”, and I generally like those actors. It just looked overblown and stupid AND like the whole story was telegraphed in the commercial. No thanks!
Rosario Dawson!
So you’re an *actual* Hawaiian-born mixed-race person- ie, someone who actually knows what the fuck they’re talking about- and your comment gets 11 whole stars, while the pearl-clutching original comment gets over 300 stars.
Hey, preaching to the choir here.
Yep. But as William Goldman said of Hollywood, “nobody knows anything.” Big fancy movies turn out to be stinkers. Little shoestring indies catch on fire and make stars. This movie? Doesn’t sound like anyone could have saved it.
I feel bad for everyone in this story: the dude for thinking he had a chance and going all out to make a great evening, and the woman for going along with it and having an awful time. Agreed, though- she absolutely should get to choose how SHE wants to celebrate her milestone.
So, by that logic... you should agree to go on unwanted dates because the suitor may be violent? Nobody likes to be turned down, but most men- truly, most of them- do not stab or blind their prospective dates. This is not a good argument you’re making. If you don’t want to go out with somebody, kindly but firmly say…
“You people”? Really?
They’re casting big names, that’s why. Emma Stone can open a movie. Kristin Kreuk can’t. I’m not saying it’s right- far from it. Just that it’s a business (or business-as-usual) Hollywood decision. (I’m guessing you started with “Again,” because other people have replied to you.)
My takeaway from the first story is- if you know you’re never going to go out with someone, just say no. SAY NO. This guy took her at her word, and somehow *he’s* the creep of the tale? And I can’t even fault him for making a big fuss on what should be a very celebratory day for a former cancer patient. (Full…
It’s true that darker traits usually win out, but not always. I have a family member who is one quarter Asian, and she is indeed blonde, blue-eyed, and very white looking. Her brother is a redhead with Asian-looking eyes. A close friend is half-Asian and half-white: he looks 100% Asian, his brother looks like a white…
Neither of those women are a big enough box office draw. They cast three bigger stars, all of whom can open a picture. Not saying it’s right, just that it was almost certainly an economic decision.
