There are two answers to “What is the greatest series finale of all time?”: Six Feet Under, and “something else, because I haven’t watched Six Feet Under.”

See, that’s how I felt about The Sopranos. Maybe not plot-wise, the Mob stories always kept moving forwards, but I felt like at the end of Six Feet Under I was watching fundamentally different characters, people who had GROWN, whereas I felt like, other than maybe AJ to a small degree, the four people in that diner

I just started watching the show with my wife (she’s never seen it, I have 3 times) and I warned her that she would be tempted to scream “shut up, Brenda!!!” more times than she could count, but Brenda is still as well-rounded and realistic a person as any of them, and by the end of season 5 had my well-earned

Hi-yoooo!!!

Paul Verhoeven, whose last film, 2016’s Elle, was the kind of challenging arthouse fare that would seem to point toward a more cerebral phase of his career. Benedetta is both that Verhoeven and the Verhoeven who made Basic Instinct and Showgirls.

There’s nothing I hate more than the idea that the end of the main story is the End of History in a tale. Have some balls & come up with something new in this massive world! We don’t need to know why Bran the Builder was called that, or whatever.

Or actual Smashmouth

“Muh rights!!! Muh freeum!!!!”

Nick Hornby is furiously banging out a screenplay as we speak.

I’m really looking forward to Cyrano, Joe Wright can be hit-or-miss but the preview looks spectacular.

This will lead to a massive online campaign to bring the show back, followed by a massively disappointing season 3 sometime around 2026.

Is your scary movie a metaphor for grief and/or mental health deterioration? There ya go.

The DVD insert that listed all of the critical pans of the movie, and on the reverse side printed the lone positive review in its entirety (from the New York Daily News, I believe?) is one of my favorites.

We got them in the 90s. One was awesome, the other was...not terrible, but not awesome either.

I just rewatched that movie a couple weeks ago, and holy hell does it hold up. Even Keanu’s much-derided performance is sort of weirdly charming. Kind of amazing that Wynona Ryder & Gary Oldman hated each other during filming, because good lord their chemistry is off the charts.

Wolf ‘94 is batshit insane, but totally worth it for James Spader’s completely off-the-wall performance.

I watched The Ref every Christmas eve for over a decade. One of my all-time favorites.

I just finally saw that this year. I thought it was very good, but "very good" is bottom-tier PTA.

Right?!
