To follow that, BMW have done an amazing job making their upgrades accessible to the lower tiers as well. M3 control arms and bushings do amazing things to a 328i. I’d like to see somebody try that with a (checks notes) Kia K900.

Wasn’t that the norm, though? The RB and VG engines were aluminum heads and iron block.

I agree; the outcome is likely the result of the decisions from an FMEA. In those situations, safety systems are better to fault to operate than to fail to activate. The parameters the driver provided put the system in an unknown state where it fell into the probability of a crash, and did what it was supposed to do.
