Yes, but how the movie compare to Isben’s Enemy of the People?

Nor you.
Yeah, many of Zack’s criticisms aren’t really hitting their target for me - presumably because he’s familiar with the source material and I’m not. But I do get the sense that the show is merely treading water in Angelville (as opposed to creating a narrative with a real purpose or stakes).
My sentiments exactly. Was expecting Adam and Eve to be the track singled out, and was shocked that it was the dire Cop Shot the Kid. Nas has a commanding presence on Adam and Eve (even if some of the lyrics are unintentionally funny), while I can barely feel him on Cop.
I was somehow confused about Phoebe, and the role it played - even though the show went to great lengths to clarify.
Thanks sniggly...very helpful.
To those that have read the novels: what is the Protomolecule’s progency, exactly? I thought it was something biologically engineered by humans (albeit unintentionally), but it appears to be of alien origin (with its own intentions and objectives).
This episode was so heavy handed it was dragging its knuckles on the ground.
Last weeks episode was wonderful because it was a creation myth with a lightness of touch. This week’s episode was so ponderous : it belabored every point, and somehow believes that it saying something original or with philosophical import.
What the fuck did I just read? Why would you even remotely assume that what we watched was real? Or was within the same time line or reality? Or not just another delusion (collective or personal)?
If Twitter had any moral integrity or fortitude, it would ban Trump for being a troll and pathological liar.
The show is at its worst when grounded in plot or building narrative momentum - it only soars when chronicling the raising of (a) consciousness.
This episode was wonderful because it pointed beyond Westworld, and resonated on a mythical (or transcultural) level. The story Akecheta tells is a creation myth that originates with the dawn (or rising) of consciousness itself.
With friends like you, who needs enemas.
Great article - worth linking too twice.
I liked Sense8 for one ‘reason’: it had the audacity to dramatize the feeling that we could all be one another’s ‘guardian angels’.
The AVClub should also be singing the praises of serpentwithfeet - a literal godsend.
Putting out the fire with gasoline.
To those that have read the books: do they also drag their heels once everyone approaches the Ring of Proto? I was hoping for a meeting of minds and talking alien heads already. Talk about constant buildup, and loss of momentum.
It’s a curiously underwhelming record: Ye could have done with some more manic energy or inspired lunacy . There are only three good songs here, and it would be promptly forgotten or ignored if it didn’t have Kanye West’s name on the label.
