Of course the example of dolphins brings up that they are animals that have ancestors which evolved on land, but returned to the sea. Like whales.

I don’t think kinja realizes how broken and annoying their new endless scrolling thing is. I had to try like six times earlier to get the right comments section on a string of articles.

KINJA. STOP IT. GO BACK TO THE OLD WAY WHERE THE ARTICLE YOU CLICK IS THE ONLY ARTICLE YOU GET.

Fun fact: One of the largest solar storms ever recorded occurred in 1859. Known as the Carrington Event, a huge CME hit the earth; auroras were seen around the world, as far south as the Caribbean. Telegraph systems shorted and overloaded, zapping telegraphers and in some cases allowing the telegraph to continue

This^ right here is why infinite scrolling is a BAD idea.

For those that would like a size reference, I’ve placed this green arrow. To give you an idea of the size of the arrow, I placed earth next to it :-)

Nope, they are running the Trump empire.

Alongside Blindsight by Peter Watts (though for different reasons), this is maybe my favorite science fiction of the last decade. I thought the actual writing is incredible, as opposed to so many books with decent ideas and substandard writing of language that populate sci-fi these days, including quite a lot of stuff

Except Horizon outsold Zelda and is currently #1 in the charts so I don’t think it has any problem shining

Actually if you search Horizon vs Zelda, it looks like Horizon is winning the sales battle so far.

Horizon gets way more of this stuff right than any other huge open world game I’ve played.

This is what we call false equivalence. Wanting characters to identify with is not the same as saying you only enjoy characters you identify with.

I wonder if the “it must teach life” is an allusion to all those unborns they’re so concerned about.

You lack rational thinking skills and reading comprehension.

This is a false statement, born out of ignorance.

Why would a blog about science be pro-science? I think you answered your own question there.

Well, I can take joy in the pain of people who are regretting their votes because Donald is not building a wall/prosecuting Clinton. I really don’t have a lot of sympathy for those ones.

This idea that our fellow citizens are innately good people.

Vision just seems like too big an evolutionary trump card to not have evolved anywhere except a world of complete darkness. Being able to detect light and dark confers an advantage to even single-celled organisms, so it is a big gun that seems unlikely NOT to evolve in a sunlit world.
