Look, who's reading this article? You chowderheads.. or me?!
Woody Alien?
The "Election Day!" card made me laugh because both the woman and the man look like they could be played by Terry Jones. (Ignoring the man's creepily small neck.)
Because it should be making the cheezburger, just like a good wholesome pussy cat should!
I'm not really sure how much you can blame E.T. for The Thing disappointing at the box office, as movies like Wrath of Khan and Firefox did pretty well for themselves even with E.T. making history alongside them. The real culprit might actually be Poltergeist, which outgrossed The Thing on the latter's opening weekend…
I loved The Conjuring 2, honestly a bit more than the first (though they're both really good). Wan still knows how to earn his scares and hook your attention, plus it's a really good domestic drama to boot. My number 2 movie of the year so far (behind Hell or High Water).
Possession works much more for me as a tragic element than as a scary one, because there's just something so miserable about the idea of having your personality suppressed/overwritten that really hits me. You can see that element a lot in The Exorcist in the "HELP ME" scene, but I thought they utterly nailed it in The…
I remember getting nervous on elevators for nearly a year after seeing FD2. Brrrrr…..
2nd favorite behind Alien for me, and one of my top 10 movies in general.
Duly noted.

Obviously the two aren't identical - Stanton was a Pixar insider whose career has been defined by the company, whereas Bird was an outsider who was invited to join, and his M:I success indicates he is far more equipped to survive on his own than Stanton. But their directorial credits and the circumstances surrounding…
I forgot there was a co-director on Nemo (though I remembered that there was one for Dory), but that was the first one where Stanton got lead director credit. And obviously, Bird and Stanton aren't exact matches, largely because Stanton was a Pixar insider whereas Bird was an outsider that was invited to join because…
I don't think Cruise's career was in any real danger before Ghost Protocol, so that's giving Bird a little too much credit. (Plus, Cruise has had bigger hits when inflation is accounted for.)
Apparently not, since it didn't save him from following Stanton's lead. Honestly, the biggest wrench in the formula is Stanton co-directing A Bug's Life - perhaps you could add step zero to account for it.
So I think I've found a trend with Pixar directors who come back after doing live-action:
Didn't you know? All men talk about their casual love for groping women. It's just what they do. Also, making a comedic animated movie containing sex and violence is morally equivalent to bragging about how you got away with molestation of real people.
I have doubts about "The Great Beyond" getting a Best Original Song nomination, primarily because the song is basically unperformable on a live public broadcast. The controversies that would result from the song's religious themes, the "exterminate the juice" line, and sexual/scatological references would inspire too…
