I feel the same way about stories in the vein of fables/myths/fairy-tales/allegories/legends/parables/folklore etc. regardless of if it’s live action or animation. Something about taking a story out of the realm of reality or making it larger than life, in my mind, really allows it to more fully explore the themes

This seems like a starter for getting kids into messed up movies. I mean, maybe start with Charlotte’s Web, The Secret of NIMH, and The Last Unicorn. Then ease into Watership Down and The Plague Dogs, or anything from Studio Ghibli. Then if/when they rationalize it somehow as something just happening to cartoon

Some European studios still do some elements as handmade. The backgrounds for Ernest and Celestine were all watercolor paintings.

I always thought their eyes were like that because they were both blind. That’s a cool theory though.

I’m glad I’m not the only person who thought Nicodemus and the Owl were connected. I absolutely adored this movie and watched my poor VHS version over and over. I never found it creepy at all, but then again I also love The Dark Crystal, so what do I know?

I want to “boo” you and vociferously disagree that two of my favorite movies could actually only be good because they got their claws into me at a young age... but they DID get their claws into me at a young age, so I guess it’s not a very objective argument I’ve got.

I hate to be that guy, but most of the feeling I get when I watch old animation like this is just how much I miss truly handmade animation.

I saw this when I was 5, my dad having found it at the video store and noting only that it was a cartoon with cute animals. It was definitely terrifyingly memorable, including all the scenes you mentioned. I remember deep, almost existential fear, just from the disregard that the humans (and cats) showed for the

I don’t really find the dialogue to be anymore standard then an average Disney animated film from that same period. In fact I wouldn’t call it super childish, just fair dialogue with “family / kids jokes” thrown-in for good measure.

He remembers me!

I remember the contemporary reviews absolutely brutalized the first couple episodes. I admit it stumbled a bit out of the gate, and I’ve never liked to accuse a writer of not “getting” a piece of entertainment as a means of justifying my own enjoyment. But man, the AV Club just did not get Bojack at all in the

Dude. We spend $84M per year on erectile dysfunction medication for our military. Don’t even *pretend* that you’re worried about the economics of this - the costs would be at most one-tenth the Viagra budget.

The military has not historically covered gender-transition surgeries, though President Barack Obama did announce plans for it to begin doing so. That cost would be between $2.4 million and $8.4 million annually for transition-related costs, according to a RAND analysis commissioned by the Department of Defense.

Christ, what an asshole!

At least Gorka resigned.

And if you play Another One Bites The Dust backward, it says “Ssssfun to smo mariwanna.” and also it makes you murder your family.

Nope.

Used to be. Things have shifted, apparently, and Fridays have become a thing.
