My super hot take is that s1 of HoTD is going to make people reappraise Benioff and Weiss as they got right everything HoTD is struggling with.

Ugh, that show. I watched it through it’s entire run waiting for the wives- or anyone- to realize how messed up their lives were and instead, the creators doubled down and did the opposite
I don’t think it’s an issue of hoping somebody brings enlightened despotism to Westeros but that nobody seems to care about Westeros at all. We’re supposed to be rooting for Rhaenyra (I think) but she doesn’t show any actual signs of being capable of winning the throne, let alone ruling. Her speech about making people…
This show always looks grey and depressing. It needs to go to Dorne or somewhere to add some color to it
Granted my tv is crap but the cinematography of the show is also kind of crap. Everything is kind of gray and murky and depressing
That’s my understanding too. He didn’t want to get that involved with GoT because he wanted to concentrate on the books and, we’ll, here we are
This is my favorite episode too. The show needs to lean in more into the inherent fucked-up’ness of it all and this episode leaned into it. The whole show down between Alicent and Rhaenyra in the throne room was what the show’s been lacking so far
That whole speech about ruling as a tyrant did not give me hope that she was going to try and establish enlightened rule throughout Westeros. It also means I’m still having trouble finding a rooting interest and thus a why to all of this despite my leaning towards the Uncle Fucker. In the end, I am and will always be…
I definitely dug the Godzilla (the old one, not the CGI one) vibe of the dragon scene
What used to be the mark of good writing is showing and not telling. This show, so far, is doing a lot of showing. It’s been kind of fun seeing the young actors and seeing how the relationship grew but I also feel like it could have been easily detailed by a line here or a line there by the adult actors. I guess it’s…
Yeah I’d say 30 but a rough 30. Although, to be fair, in most of the episode she was either giving birth or recovering from giving birth
And even the bad characters were entertaining in a way. Cersei is horrible in almost every way but oh, so, much fun. The HoTD characters are not fun.
We’ll, most of the bad guys got killed so there’s that.
My question is if Rhaenyra dated anyone else who wasn’t part of the King’s Guard. Girlfriend needs to play with more of the field. Also why didn’t she at least try and have offspring with her husband. After the first non-Targaryen looking offspring, she’s realize that was a mistake
I felt like they were setting up Rhaenyra as the smart, wily one, the one who we were supposed to see as the worthiest one for the throne. Instead, she’s been kind of dumb and petulant. There’s nothing about her that makes me think she is worthy of being even near the throne and so goes the most likeable character
Or skip it entirely. Or maybe just even have one episode showing all of this but as a flashback
One of things lacking so far are things like that, the interpersonal dynamics of each character as there is a lot of potential there. I’m not sure that part of the story would work in terms of what they want to do but I feel like that would have been an interesting little thing to explore
The main problem with the time jump is that our relationship with Rhaenyra and Alicent were with the previous actresses. I am rooting for Rhaenyra in part because I liked Milly’s Rhaenyra. When you suddenly switch actresses like that, it’s like they’re whole new characters in that they’re not the people we had…
GoT had likable characters you could root for and part of it’s appeal was in watching those likable characters finally have good things happen to them. As of this point, HoTD really has none and it’s a problem. I was/am kind of rooting for Rhaenyra but she’s not really doing much show-wise to make me want to root for…
I mainly want to know why even in this fantasy world full of silly names, people thought Jace was a good name to give somebody. How long until we meet a Ser Kayden?
