I wouldn’t say they were inefficient. They just didn’t rev that high, peaking at 4200 rpm for hp and 3200 for torque. While not sitting in traffic they’d easily get mid 20s mpg similar cars today are not much better. And it was 30+ years ago without VVT, direct injection, electric cooling fan, etc.

Alright, I dont see how this is legal or stay legal for long when the argument for seatbelt and helmet laws is “other people” have to pay for people not wearing a seatbelt or helmet in form of increased insurance premiums. But now you can or soon will be ordering a whopper to stuff your fat face while your artieries

So this is interesting. What’s the latest statistic on dieing in a motorcycle crash compares to a car? I think its 32x. So that means chances of dieing on a motorcycle is under .5% at .4896% when compared to the deadliest “modern” car on the road.

And how are those selling?

113,066 world wide? They use to regularly sell more than that just in the US. Looking at the production numbers they were above 100k a year, with the exception of 1991 and 1992, until 2008.  While the present Mustang is the best it’s ever been I have a feeling it is being priced out reach for the people it is marketed

Huffy made their own bikes in the USA up until the mid or late 90s until Walmart and cheap Chinese bikes put a stop to that. They were mostly a department store brand but popular.

Yeah they were so good they are still making them in Iran! Dude, leading “second and third lives as taxi cabs in Africa” isn’t saying much. As long a car can get up to 30mph and stop within a few hundred feet it can serve as a taxi in Africa.

My wife’s 13 MKZ I can’t stand the head rest.  I thought it was only me, it’s annoying and after an hour or so of driving my neck hurts because of that stupid headrest.  I tried all sorts of adjustments of the seat to no avail.  I ended up just flipping it around when I have to drive it.  Sure it is not as safe but

Stick both of them on the highways of SoCal you would obviously get a different result. I’d guess the 4 banger would come out ahead. At regular highway speeds the size of the engine doesn’t have that much effect on MPG. I got over 30mpg in my 88 mustang with a 5 liter numerous times when it was stock with 2.73 gears.

I’d hold out for an 851/2-86 model, stronger 8.8 axle and 35 more hp.

Don’t worry bikes still get pulled over for loud exhaust. There was a law passed around 2012-2013 that all bikes 2013 and newer must have an EPA approved exhaust.

Also the loss in power going through a transmission and differential. Isn’t Telsa’s motors directly connected to the wheels?

This probably has to do with the persons age but for me the first hyperbike would be the zx10 of the 80s. That blew everything away back then. As for Japanese bikes I’d say the first hyperbike was the Honda CB750 in 1968 or 69. I’m sure there was THE hyperbike before that one also but those who rode them are long gone.

Completely agree on the electronics part of cars a lot of it, that has been added in the past 5 years, is shit you don’t need on a huntin’ rig as they say. But a lot of the features of the 2.7l 4 banger while controlled by a computer is hardware, integrated exhaust manifold, an oil heater, separating the coolant of

People said the same thing about fuel injection and computers in the 80s.

My mom had a 99 prelude and Honda told her a quart every 1500 miles was acceptable.

Their bet in the 80s on the boomers wasn’t wrong. It made them a butt load of cash for 20 years. In the late 90s or 2000s they should have been developing more modern motorcycles and engines to remain relevant to the present motorcycling market. Even if the recession didn’t come in 2008 it was/is inevitable the

Not when you’re talking about fox vs f bodies.

I thought once the car is repossessed you are off the hook for the loan, sort of.  The bank or lending agency has the asset back that they can resell to recoup what is left of the loan.  So you are telling me they can take the car from you and you still have to pay the loan in full?
