You’d be surprised how many people love Chik-Fil-A.

I think many millions of people would buy anything Martin wrote that even a little relates to A Song of Ice and Fire. I also think any world building he writes would be more succinct than the Silmarillion which while a masterpiece in its way, is also dense as get out.

I imagine that at this point, GRRM feels pretty much free to write whatever he wants, whenever. It wouldn’t surprise me if Winds of Winter didn’t even show up until after Game of Thrones has ended.
