Every once in a while a game nails both, though. Deep Rock Galactic is a great example. Totally different genre, scale, play style and game design, obviously, but it’s refreshing when a studio makes the game fun first and then tacks on tons of amusing customization.

Splitgate comes to mind, and even will give you cosmetic upgrades without you having to pay for the battle pass, although you do get more by paying for it.

It’s 2021, we can stop pretending that AAA games having free modes is done out of the goodness of someone’s heart and not because they’ve already planned on how to recoup any potential financial losses from that decisions through unreasonable grinds, exhorbitant microtransactions and exploitative practices.

And there’s precedent in esports; because of the wacky localization musical-chairs naming in Street Fighter regarding the SF2 bosses, Vega, Balrog, and M. Bison are generally referred to as “Claw”, “Boxer”, and “Dictator” in broadcasts.

You say that like we where being unreasonable expecting better hardware but you forget that this thing costs 350 dollars for tech that wasn’t cutting edge 5 years ago and it’s downright ridiculous now. What’s unreasonable is keeping the same cheap tech and charging the same for it, what would sweeten the pot for new

That is exactly why the console will sell, despite disappointment and why Nintendo will keep doing the same BS unchecked. Because, “no one needs 4k, we love this “new” product, at the very least we’ll buy the docking station”. Oh well.

My problem with this is that yes while most people dont have 4k tv’s yet everyone could benefit from that capabilities of a 2 or 4k capable switch in terms of clearer visuals in general due to native 1080 capability or downscaling from 2k or 4k instead of upscaling and in general a better gameplay experience of more

This comment is an excellent example of saying a lot without saying anything at all

I am always curious when these deals are made: it’s possible the Avengers coming to Playstation Now might have felt like a much bigger deal to Sony... if the deal was written, you know, a few months before the game’s actual release. The fact that a game with an expensive license like the Avengers - and the built-in

So it’s easy to argue that PlayStation as a brand doesn’t need something like Game Pass to be successful. I’m not sure I could argue the same thing for Xbox.”

It is looking more and more likely that the new Switch model will essentially just be a Switch XL (equivalent to the various DS XL models) but with a new fancy dock that does upscaling.

Honestly while that new rumor with the screen thing(though it’s noted that talks of “up to 4k support” might just end up meaning “more reliable 1080p” rather than trying to stretch performance to “4k but... uh, performance still suffer”) seem semi more solid than others... again, I suspect a possible “Switch Pro”....

They’re not going to pull a Wii U because people are buying Switches. It might seem like Wii U support was dropped quickly but when you look at sales the customer base abandoned it way before Nintendo did. The entire year of 2016 they didn’t sell 1 million units.

I’m not criticising Nintendo for it at all! I’m saying I welcome their making shorter, more experimental games too.

It’s misplaced expectations, which I also suffered from when I first played it on Wii U. This is NOT what people think of as “3D Mario”, nor is it even remotely trying to be. It’s a classic-style SMB game (like SMB3) that happens to have an extra axis. And if you think of it that way and play it as such... it’s a

Yes, absolutely. But you would have to make the game, publish it, get sued, and then fight an expensive legal battle to determine whether or not it was different enough to not be covered by the patent. Which is possible, but requires you to have DEEP pockets AND the desire to litigate your game. Most people don’t want

I’m also bummed that Sakaguchi hasn’t worked on more high profile games, but to be fair: he left Square because of his hugely ambitious miscalculation of making a blockbuster movie; Lost Odyssey was critically popular but I’m not sure it sold well, especially in Japan where Xbox is a nonentity; meanwhile, his other

Square Enix, writing notes: “Okay, so you said you want the iOS port of VI with the giant touchscreen interface and terrible muddled artwork, right? Great, that’ll be $20. No need to thank us.

How about Final Fantasy I - VI on Switch? Specifically I’d like to see the GBA version of VI, but with the original SNES soundtrack.

It’s hard to remember to plug in after every play session for some (myself included). You plonk down the controller where you are (after all, half the convenience is being able to sit on the couch and fire the console up right away without having to walk up to it, right?) So unless the cable is right there where you
