Honestly I think it’s because her estate hated the Oscar winning documentary and wanted to put a film out there that didn’t make Mitch Winehouse look like the exploitative and enabling piece of shit that he was in real life. As a huge Amy Winehouse fan I cannot imagine there are many fans out there that have any

It’s also almost definitely going to end after “Defying Gravity,” which is going to be pretty jarring for those who don’t know it’s a two parter.

To be fair she was also a teenager and I believe that role was on the smaller side. She can obviously sing (though I hope someone got her to work on her diction), but we’re in a bit of unknown territory when it comes to her acting chops. At least when compared to Erivo who is a Tony winner and an Oscar nominee.

I guess by then we’ll have forgotten about the brilliant revival currently running on Broadway. Which will be good for the film since Merrily has never worked better and it’s about to win a ton of Tony’s next month.

Oh yes that was one of them that I was referring to. I’m a fellow theater nerd, too, and I actually played Jack twice back in the day! Too bad the movie was so disappointing. Other than West Side Story (both the original and the remake) I don’t think there’s ever been a Sondheim msucial that’s been successfully

I know people have complained for years about trailers that give away the whole film, but this is the first time I’ve watched a trailer and it felt like a “previously on” recap you see at the beginning of a new season of a show. Just a bit odd, especially since it doesn’t come out for another six months.

Any time a blunder of this scale occurs I can’t help but think it came down to some very high up executive who either had the idea themselves or was just really in to it and was surrounded by underlings who couldn’t question them.

I saw this live at Met Life in New Jersey and it was one of the most epic and fantastic shows I’ve ever seen. She just barreled through the show with so much fierce energy that it felt like a two hour dance party. And when she slowed it down to do some ballads everyone was reminded what a powerhouse vocalist she is.

A multi-millionaire executive producer of a lucrative reality tv show franchise is against unions!?

38 years for Cats and 29 years for Les Mis. But by the time they came out they weren’t on Broadway anymore (Les Mis is still playing in the West End as of today). Wicked is of course still on Broadway and still a major hit: it grossed $2.4 million last week, just behind The Lion King.

Seeing Cats in theaters in December 2019 right after Christmas in NYC with an audience full of drunk and stoned people was the best movie going experience of my entire life. It was pure chaos and it was fantastic.

It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the stage show, but as I recall Dr. Dillamond is barely in it. Like a bit in the first act at most. Perhaps this means they’ll be expanding his role in the films (still won’t believe it’s two films until it actually happens), or maybe Dinklage wanted a nice paycheck for a quick easy b

I mostly loved this, but almost entirely for Kate Winslet and the production design. She could sell a six hour mini series reading the phonebook. And she was wonderful in this at every turn, but she did the heavy lifting to make the show work. She’ll still probably win a host of awards for it and it will be deserved.

Helps that they’ve added an enormously famous and talented pop star whose first two movies did quite well at the box office almost entirely due to her being in them!

I’m a massive Gaga fan, but didn’t care for the first Joker, so I was conflicted about this, even if I was intrigued. This looks legitimately fantastic. I will be seated opening night.

It’s worth noting that 2004 is the only time the Republican has won the popular vote since George HW Bush in 1988. So once in the last eight presidential elections.

It’s obviously Genovia.

I’d watch Winslet read the phonebook, but this was a wonderful delight. The range she showed in just the first episode was remarkable and it was so enjoyable to watch her flex her comedic talents, which have always been apparent (see, also: Extras, among other things), but never the most prominent part of her career.

Lady Gaga also went country-ish for a bit when she released Joanne in 2016, which she won a Grammy for.

I won’t believe this is actually going to be two films until the credits roll on part one when I see it in theaters. It is just bafflingly stupid to split up. The second act has one good song and if the finale of the first film is “Defying Gravity” - the biggest draw for the whole show - then what is compelling people
