Yeah it’s quite literally the whole point of the big act one finale “Defying Gravity,” parts of which are included in this trailer.

Not every movie has visual effects or an original song, but they still get their own categories!

I would watch a miniseries of Kate Winslet reading the phonebook (do those still even exist?). This looks absolutely fantastic and I’m looking forward to her stepping into a role that looks somewhat comedic considering she’s mostly known for serious dramatic work.

She definitely had a run in the 2010s where she did seem to be in a lot of comedies, but she’s really slowed down since Can You Ever Forgive Me?

I’m a long time fan of awards season and I follow the lead up to the nominations, campaigns, and ceremonies pretty closely and it certainly feels like this is the internet collectively experiencing an Oscar snub for the very first time. Robbie not getting in wasn’t particularly surprising and it was predicted that she

Now playing

It’s such a stereotype about what films win Oscars that it was satirized brilliantly on Extras. And then, of course, Kate Winslet actually did win her Oscar (on her sixth nomination) for a WW2/Holocaust film.

I’ve seen Gaga live on every one of her tours. They are loud (well maybe not the one with Tony Bennett). But not much louder than other large concerts I’ve been to - I think it’s mostly the screaming fans that really add to it. Another thing about this particular tour where the injury happened: The Monster Ball was a

I had the same thought. It was very noticeable. Hope he’s okay.

BAFTA weirdness usually tends to result in a bias towards British films. Saltburn was overrepresented and even pulled off a nomination for Elordi (the weakest part of the film) when it’s not likely to get more than a Supporting nomination for Rosamund Pike at the Oscars (if that). Generally speaking BAFTA has become a

I agree with your point about the Oscars loving to virtue signal, but if she loses SAG it will be genuinely shocking if Stone doesn’t win. Stone has the kind of showy Acting™ performance that actors love and she’s in every second of the film, so as of now I think she has the edge there. I think Gladstone would have

Gladstone was just snubbed at the BAFTAs and lost to Emma Stone at Critics Choice. If she loses at SAG next month she is going to have a very hard time winning the Oscar. Flowers continually falling out of favor with voters isn’t helping her chances.

Exactly! Les Schmiserables was right there! Hopefully they’ll perform or release the material in some form since it sounds like it had all been written.

I think the problem with the second season was that the Broadway era they were tackling was filled with shows that had such wildly disparate tones and output that they weren’t able to combine them all the way they did with the “Golden Age” era musicals in the first season. One of the distinguishing features of the

I can’t imagine spending an arm and a leg to see a performer that has such well known contempt for her audience that making them wait two hours is on the short end of the spectrum for what she’s been known to do for years. As I’ve heard it’s usually three hours wait.

I would love to see what Greta Gerwig would do with just about any Sondheim musical. Perhaps A Little Night Music with Kate Winslet as Desiree or an adaptation of the gender swapped Company that was recently on Broadway and was genius.

Sunset Boulevard is also an absolutely dreadful musical with only two good songs in the entire 2.5 hour run (and to be fair they are brilliant songs). I saw the recent Broadway revival with Glenn Close and she was magnificent, but the show is a slog.

The simple answer is that the producers knew that if they submitted the show as a drama it wouldn’t stand a chance of winning, especially up against a juggernaut like Succession. It’s the same reason there are more than a few actors who have won major awards in supporting categories when they were clearly the leads.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have more followers, but she comes in third with a whopping 429 million, so the most followers for a pop star. Which I find truly perplexing considering she’s ahead of Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

Hard pass. Her POS father manages her estate and gave his blessing to this film.

That was me and Luca. Such a beautiful, special film, and that final scene turned me in to a puddle. Hopefully with this release it gets more attention because I think a lot of people missed it.
