Ironically while she was still alive Katharine Hepburn was reportedly unimpressed with Streep because she thought she was too reliant on technique and did not come off as natural.

With regard to Leo winning the Oscar and then returning to not winning again that’s not exactly uncommon. There have only been 44 actors to win an Oscar more than once (the majority of those having won two) and when you consider that there are about 20 acting nominees every year and the ceremony has been going on…
I saw it in theaters and all the wild scenes hit even harder on the big screen. I wouldn’t say it was exactly an interactive screening, but the audience reactions throughout the whole film definitely added to the entertainment and general “WTF is happening!?” vibe.
If I recall she hasn’t had the best time at the Globes in the past. There was the time Amy Poehler and Tina Fey made a joke about her dating life where she did not look happy and another time she lost her category and looked similarly displeased. Not sure if that was the same year or not.
The lyrics to “Sister Suffragette” certainly seem very pro-suffrage. I’m sure if it came out today there’d probably be online grumblings from the MAGA crowd that it was woke with a line like this: “Though we adore men individually / We agree that as a group they’re rather stupid!”
In the video game trailer Mickey is wearing white gloves. Steamboat Willie Mickey does not (I believe that version won’t be in the public domain until later this year). I’m sure they can expect a very kind letter from the Disney legal team shortly.
No, because it was A.A. Milne’s original Winnie the Pooh that entered the public domain. The Disney animated versions of those characters are covered for several more decades as they didn’t come out until 1977.
The Wizard of Oz had four directors, they nearly killed the original Tin Man before filming even started forcing a recast, the Wicked Witch suffered third degree burns, and someone stepped on Toto and sprained his paw! Not to mention all the pills they had to force on Judy Garland and the fight to keep “Somewhere Over…
There were three vampire themed Broadway musicals that opened in the early/mid-2000s and they were all spectacular flops with very short runs despite each having some big names attached to the productions/casts. It will certainly be interesting to see if they can make this work because with a few notable exceptions…
The Globes don’t have guest star categories, though I’m not sure there’d be anything preventing her from being nominated in the supporting category.
Agreed. Hearing is the last thing to go as someone is dying. And our memories of music live in a different part of the brain, so it’s why people who can’t even remember their names can sing along to a song without missing a lyric (I witnessed this numerous times when I worked at an assisted living facility). A family…
Agreed on all points. Especially the public proposal. She almost had no choice, which I’m sure will come up in the remaining episodes.
It’s the standard now. I think they make the price difference between the rental and purchase so small so that people* just shrug and say might as well own it for an extra $5.
Very happy to see nominations for Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, and Fellow Travelers. They give fantastic performances and the series has been absolutely excellent!
I’ve never watched and I don’t think I’ve ever heard from anyone out in the real world that they watch it, yet each awards season that rolls along it always gets a bunch of nominations. Is it just because it has an air of Prestige™ to it since it has big names attached and it looks like Apple has thrown a lot of money…
I think what happens to Marian will depend on what they want to do with the Russell children. Either Larry will end up with Marian and give his family the old money recognition that Bertha wants, or Gladys ends up with the Duke, which would probably be the more appealing outcome for Bertha. But all things considered…
She would almost definitely have her own money. Either funds that were set aside for her in her late husband’s will, inheritance from her own parents (the real Mrs. Astor was less reliant on her husband for this exact reason), or potentially something in her original dowry. But it’s unlikely that an old money family…
She should have won her second Oscar for Jackie. I love Emma Stone, but La La Land is dreck and other than that one scene at the very end she doesn’t stand out compared to Portman or any of the other nominees that year.
The first season of this show was fantastic and on a recent rewatch really held up. Just a perfect combo of pulpy drama with a very strong cast and writers that seemed to not take it all too seriously. But it really started falling to pieces not far in to the second season and was barely watchable in the third even…
And speaking of the Downton similarities they seem to be setting up a retelling of the Cora/Earl Crawley story with Gladys and the Duke. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out in an upcoming episode that he is very much broke and Bertha would be all too happy to assist in order to make her daughter a Duchess. Honestly it…
