I would love to see what Greta Gerwig would do with just about any Sondheim musical. Perhaps A Little Night Music with Kate Winslet as Desiree or an adaptation of the gender swapped Company that was recently on Broadway and was genius.

Sunset Boulevard is also an absolutely dreadful musical with only two good songs in the entire 2.5 hour run (and to be fair they are brilliant songs). I saw the recent Broadway revival with Glenn Close and she was magnificent, but the show is a slog.
The simple answer is that the producers knew that if they submitted the show as a drama it wouldn’t stand a chance of winning, especially up against a juggernaut like Succession. It’s the same reason there are more than a few actors who have won major awards in supporting categories when they were clearly the leads.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have more followers, but she comes in third with a whopping 429 million, so the most followers for a pop star. Which I find truly perplexing considering she’s ahead of Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
Hard pass. Her POS father manages her estate and gave his blessing to this film.
That was me and Luca. Such a beautiful, special film, and that final scene turned me in to a puddle. Hopefully with this release it gets more attention because I think a lot of people missed it.
Ironically while she was still alive Katharine Hepburn was reportedly unimpressed with Streep because she thought she was too reliant on technique and did not come off as natural.
With regard to Leo winning the Oscar and then returning to not winning again that’s not exactly uncommon. There have only been 44 actors to win an Oscar more than once (the majority of those having won two) and when you consider that there are about 20 acting nominees every year and the ceremony has been going on…
I saw it in theaters and all the wild scenes hit even harder on the big screen. I wouldn’t say it was exactly an interactive screening, but the audience reactions throughout the whole film definitely added to the entertainment and general “WTF is happening!?” vibe.
If I recall she hasn’t had the best time at the Globes in the past. There was the time Amy Poehler and Tina Fey made a joke about her dating life where she did not look happy and another time she lost her category and looked similarly displeased. Not sure if that was the same year or not.
The lyrics to “Sister Suffragette” certainly seem very pro-suffrage. I’m sure if it came out today there’d probably be online grumblings from the MAGA crowd that it was woke with a line like this: “Though we adore men individually / We agree that as a group they’re rather stupid!”
In the video game trailer Mickey is wearing white gloves. Steamboat Willie Mickey does not (I believe that version won’t be in the public domain until later this year). I’m sure they can expect a very kind letter from the Disney legal team shortly.
No, because it was A.A. Milne’s original Winnie the Pooh that entered the public domain. The Disney animated versions of those characters are covered for several more decades as they didn’t come out until 1977.
The Wizard of Oz had four directors, they nearly killed the original Tin Man before filming even started forcing a recast, the Wicked Witch suffered third degree burns, and someone stepped on Toto and sprained his paw! Not to mention all the pills they had to force on Judy Garland and the fight to keep “Somewhere Over…
The Globes don’t have guest star categories, though I’m not sure there’d be anything preventing her from being nominated in the supporting category.
Agreed. Hearing is the last thing to go as someone is dying. And our memories of music live in a different part of the brain, so it’s why people who can’t even remember their names can sing along to a song without missing a lyric (I witnessed this numerous times when I worked at an assisted living facility). A family…
Agreed on all points. Especially the public proposal. She almost had no choice, which I’m sure will come up in the remaining episodes.
It’s the standard now. I think they make the price difference between the rental and purchase so small so that people* just shrug and say might as well own it for an extra $5.
Very happy to see nominations for Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, and Fellow Travelers. They give fantastic performances and the series has been absolutely excellent!
I’ve never watched and I don’t think I’ve ever heard from anyone out in the real world that they watch it, yet each awards season that rolls along it always gets a bunch of nominations. Is it just because it has an air of Prestige™ to it since it has big names attached and it looks like Apple has thrown a lot of money…
