How does 44 mpg vs. 55 mpg (Toyota UK's figure for the Prius converted to US gallons) become "nearly as economical"? The A5 also has less rear room and trunk space and three fewer doors.

The Porsche 959's wheels were hollow to increase air volume in the wheel+tire combo.

@GoodOldSasta: E for electric, hyphen implying hybrid, Go suggesting mobility rather than performance, Re- for re{charging, generating, inventing, engineering} and volt for the unit of electromotive force.

@ranwhenparked: I guarantee that in less than a decade, those few cars so badly engineered that they can't recover kinetic energy and continue burning fossil fuel at a standstill will be the real "automotive weirdness".

Piss on the Prius all you want, but note that if you give up on mid-size 5-door practicality and get a smaller car, you'll get worse mileage and more pollution. What an amazing rolling appliance.

Excellent, more battery.
