No. This is why there’re than one entry for some words in the dictionary, because context matters. By assault weapon we mean “something that can kill many people in one go.” You’d have a very hard time killing even one person with any non-gun weapon (don’t argue this, the stats bear it out).

Guns are not a deterrence against violence. The statistics show that adding guns just increases the body count. You might believe that you’ll be the one left standing, but the probability of that isn’t much greater than 50/50, and it comes at a cost of many more deaths, total.
