The special effects in Sherlock Jr. when he walks into the movie screen and the scenery changes around him as he stands there still makes my jaw drop. The amazing care that must have went into filming that part. It would be easy today with CG, but they just had to shoot it then.

Barry Lyndon’s scenes were largely based on paintings of the era, so it’s not really a surprise that it is such a deliberately slow-moving film. It is definitely a difficult watch and I say that as someone who counts it as a favorite.
