To be fair, I haven’t seen any article advocating for double spaces. Single spacers seem to be up in arms about something so trivial. In any Linux like environment this will find multiple spaces and replace it with single space.

Funny...we do the exact opposite...anything with 1 space we automatically change to 2 spaces for our copy editing processes. We also dump all resumes that use 1 space after periods. Spaces have consequences.

I work in a field where two spaces after the period is a best practice due to increasing readability on the page. So if someone sends me copy with just one space after the period I have to edit in the second spaces.
