Instead of reviewing every single goal, has anyone proposed that soccer use an NFL-like system where teams get a limited number of VAR challenges to burn and get penalized if a call goes against them?

Come on. Your claim that perfection in the application of the rules is more important than preserving the emotional impact of the game that drew us all to it is a ridiculous argument.
Allowing some bad calls at the margins is worth it if it means we can celebrate goals in real time.

Literally, the only good thing about Liverpool’s win is that Billy had to write this article.
Blooper is an excellent mascot name.
I think you misread the category. It was “Satisfying Finales” not “WORST FINALE IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION”
We all know that Billy HATES Madrid and LOVES Barca. We don’t really need two stories about this match in just two hours to confirm this.
Alternatively: Call me crazy, but maybe macho assholes whose egos are easily bruised could simply not punch people in the face for the *offense* of mistakenly tapping on the wrong car window.
Because Dusty not only refused to bench the atrocious Jayson Werth in Division Series against the Cubs, he insisted on batting him second. This, despite the fact that Werth was so awful that the organization already had no intention of bringing him back this year. It cost them the series.
Hot take: Despite the good finish, England were just as mediocre as they always are. They benefited from essentially throwing their match against Belgium, which gave them a historically easy path to the semi-finals — a benefit which they then threw away by losing to another mediocre team that they should easily beat.…
Lauren Theisen beats Billy Haisley (at Soccer Writing).
Every one of Drew’s columns makes me not want to have children.
Someone not willing to play Jayson Werth’s 38-year-old corpse in an elimination game with better talent on the bench, that’s who.
Playing Jayson Werth in the NLDS (and batting him 2d!!) cost them the series and was a fireable offense given (1) Werth wasn’t even good enough for the Nats to bring back next year and everyone knew it already and (2) there were much better options on the bench.
You are soooo right. What an idiot. For everyone’s benefit, here is an example of a sentence properly using “couldn’t care less” and “could care less”:
That sound you hear is the joke whizzing past your head.
I love that the keeper actually tried to save it. Imagine if he had gotten hurt!
I lol’d. +0.10
