Both Sneakers and Wargames are among the most accurate “computer movies” made.

Much of the computer stuff is total nonsense, but in a way that works for the plot and is easy to ignore as a standard unrealistic trope (the same way we ignore that silencers do not make gunshots sound like a cat sneezing, that people cannot get shot multiple times and beaten severely and then engage in a high-speed

Now playing

Man, there is nothing wrong with that movie. (Is some of the computer stuff inaccurate? I don’t know and I don’t care....)

Not that I ever need an excuse, but this is a good time to rewatch Sneakers.

No offense to Rooney Mara, but Audrey Hepburn just radiated out warmth and I’ve never seen that from Mara in anything she’s been in (not saying she’s a bad actress or anything). Hepburn was beautiful physically (obviously), but even if you didn’t know about all of her altruistic endeavors, you felt that there something

The only Audrey Hepburn was Audrey. To me nobody can play her without making it a caricature or just a decent impersonation. What a woman, worth remembering as much for humanitarian efforts as style and acting.  I’m sorry she left us too soon.

It makes no financial sense to require writers to operate out of a single office space, rather than working much more cheaply from home, so it’s got to be about control. Remote workers cannot be subjected to constant surveillance, and that sends some managers - the really, really bad ones - into a tailspin.

What a shitty thing to do, but I expect nothing less given the company.

Earlier this week Alison Tolman tweeted (I’m paraphrasing)

can we talk about this instead?

I’ll be frank, friend. It’s easier to say that now, and it doesn’t really get to the larger point: that while the TERF stuff isn’t in the content of the book, the goblin/Jewish stuff is, and is frankly in a LOT of myth/fantasy/sci-fi stuff, and we ALL just take it for granted, and literally billions of people don’t

You mean to tell me that the TERF Wizard Lady who included a subplot in her books arguing that slavery is ok if the slaves are happy being slaves and whose only Asian and Irish characters are named “Cho Chang” and “Seamus Finnegan” respectively also had antisemitic stereotypes?/s

Apart from anything else with this show, I am really happy for Christina Ricci. She seems to be having so much fun playing Misty

I mean, this show SO deserves all the ensemble cast awards, but if we’re handing out individual acting awards, I’d go with Ricci for supporting and Lynsky for lead.

exactly, a nice moment for two people who are kind hearted misfits.

Yeah I appreciated how they didn’t make Ben obviously gay, nor did they have to work in a big reveal.  Nat just was able to intuit it.  It felt very natural, and in a few lines of dialogue, we get this magnificent bond between two characters who really haven’t interacted much before.

meh I think Nat has seen her fair share of shitty straight men, and so have most of us. It was an easy way for her to clock Ben and I think that’s fine.

I like how Jackie is regressing into mean high school tactics to get control of her girl gang again, and it seems to be working.

Jackie forcing Shauna to spill her pregnancy was definitely bad. Understandable, though, since she learned the truth about her and Jeff and probably isn’t ever going to forgive Shauna for that.

I didn’t feel like the send-off was quite as bad as that. I got a real sinking feeling watching that poor girl get into the plane. You know that somehow, it fails, but you really don’t doubt her motives. The flaming teddy bear did feel a bit over the top, but I think that, if the writers were actually trying to dump
