Right up there with “defenestrated”. Fancy words for gruesome things!

You and me both! The Joy of Sex and all their luxurious 70's body hair was quite the eye opener. And Jackie Collins was brilliant and very informative. I wanted to go to Swiss finishing school and be wealthy. So far I have been unsuccessful in achieving this goal.
FAKE NEWS! Everyone knows they look like eggplants.
You gotta think big!
My tinfoil hat is loosely fitting, in the sense that there is so much going on behind the scenes in so many different arenas (not the sporting kind) that we likely become aware of only 1% at any given time. A pal of mine’s ma worked for CSIS as a reports compiler and made similar, but way more informed, claims of the…
Yep. Her audience was not Cattrall on that one- that was for the fans. It was a performative and insincere public expression to keep up the narrative that she is “nice”. Sympathies expressed should be in private. I am positive SJP has Cattrall’s email address. Or could have sent condolences via Cattrall’s agent.
Bullying 101. It looks like Parker is a classic mean girl and rallies her troops by creating a common enemy.
Shitty people can sometimes be charismatic and attract friendships easily. Cattral may be the type of person who either does not buy into it, or happened to be the easiest target. Some people approach group situations as a competition and will manufacture a common enemy in order to maintain control/be top dog. It’s…
Thankfully other teenagers don’t seem to think it’s gross the way adults do.
The old pretty girl in a pretty dress getting exsanguinated in front of an arena full of people along with an international tv audience is always good for a few gruesome repeats. Horrifying.
Or Axe anything. The acrid scent of teenaged boy and desperation. I can actually handle patchouli if it’s applied lightly and only in combo with another scent- like vetiver or ylan ylang- and on an already clean body. It’s when it’s used to drown out b.o. and weed that it smells awful.
I swear to god, I had the thought that the N Korean contingent are all intentionally infectious with something terrible. The ferry they’re all staying on is a Trojan Horse. A plague ship.
I swear to god, I could have maybe tolerated it but he chose to wear thongs. THONGS. Fucking flip flops. Deal breaker. Not even if he smells real nice. Pretty sure he smells like toasted coconut. Or vanilla and cinnamon. Someone needs to go find out and report back.
Yeah, there is still the really obvious “art” component in the ice dancing that I enjoy watching. Pairs figure skating uses choreography in a pretty utilitarian way to bridge the gap between huge jumps and lifts. The sport’s move to highlight and focus on athleticism instead of story telling really does showcase their…
Excellent description of the difference. I admit to “fear” watching the pairs figure skating because of that constant element of danger. I have watched it for enough years to see some seriously ugly injuries as a result of the flinging, throwing and lifting. Ice dancing is thrilling for a whole other host of reasons,…
That’s fascinating. Thank you! Seriously amazed they got people to dive off buildings. I guess they have to use “real” people instead of extreme athletes or skilled divers/acrobats, as they have trained themselves to ignore/eliminate the “PANIC!!!” signals one gets when in mortal danger.
Something similar happened to me. It like your body hasn’t quite caught up to the injury and forgets to bleed for a moment while you watch in stunned fascination. Then it more than makes up for it. Good times!
They are, indeed, quite different! A hockey skate has no toe pick and a thinner and shorter blade. A figure skate has a longer straight blade edge that extends past both the heel and toes of the boot to maximize contact with the ice and enable the skater to place weight either front or back of foot to assist in jumps…
Also, ice dancing is obscure enough that you aren’t expected to know anything about what’s happening in that world in the years between Olympics. It is fun to watch though. The judging is complicated, sometimes political and can appear arbitrary. All part of the thrill!
I was worried there for a moment. But you nailed the dismount spectacularly. Gold star for you!
