Am I the only one who wished it wasn’t a little girl facing down the bull but a middle aged, paunchy around the middle, Old Navy dressed woman who is tired of all the bullshit and ready to burn this fucker down?

I actually found that this was a delightful throwback to probably the best Gawker series of all times, the “Best Restaurant in the World” posts where Caity Weaver and Rich Juzwiak would go to tacky restaurants and review them like fine dining.

I have a friend who worked on Wall Street in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The stories she tells about that period of time—stories about outright sexism, sexual assault, demeaning treatment, and roadblocks to opportunity—are real and chilling. My friend was, and is, fearless in the way that this ad campaign really,

Is it OK to bring a doll?

RIGHT?!? There are maybe 8 chips on that plate. I typically have more on my shirt when I finish my lunch.

Was it a good place to take a doll?

Yea, I think also that a lot of people are new to this, and a lot of criticism early on can just be discouraging instead of helpful. There will never be a perfect time for a strike, a moment when the poor and marginalized aren’t suffering, because is precisely what is leading to a strike. If you are a capitalist that

Bumping this.

One answer to the slander that this is for “privileged” women is linked below.

I agree with you, but it’s not just concern trolls who harbor some of these ideas. I’ve seen plenty of otherwise fine progressives bitch about this strike as being a game to rich white women.

What a great story, thank you! My great-grandmother was a professional seamstress and idolized Edith Head. My grandfather used to tell a story of taking her to Hollywood and seeing Edith Head on the street — my yiayia was too shy to talk to her, though. [Wistful smiley.]

It makes me think of canned peas.

Bette’s feud with Miriam Hopkins was far worse than the one with Crawford.

As an addendum to your GWTW story, word around town was that George Cukor was replaced because Clark had a fling with him when he was a struggling actor and was afraid Cukor, who was not discrete in the least, would blab to everyone.

Almost as obligatory:

At this point, it’s more about protecting liquor stores than morality.
