I’m usually outraged that they don’t call traveling any more, but for some reason all I see in this clip is sound fundamentals and a lot of grit.
Imagine the worst traits of Christian Laettner, Ted Cruz, and Draymond Green combined in one person . . .
I’m confused, is this from the Good Boogie timeline or the Bad Boogie timeline?
On the penalty kick ideas, you should start at the 30, but also let kickers pass on the shorter distances (similar to how the high jump or pole vault works). So, if you’re cocky and choose to pass to the 45, you give yourself fewer opportunities to screw up but also put more pressure on yourself for the longer kick.
This is the bottom of the slippery slope that starts with watering down the word “elite” on the likes of Eli Manning and Joe Flacco.
Yeah, but that’s akin to me having the misfortune to bet my life savings on black when the wheel came up red. Still fair to criticize the strategy, even if I got unlucky.
I wonder how many columnists had columns drafted ready to use team-first McCaffrey (from a solid background) as a foil to pummel selfish Fournette.
He forgot the old writing adage, “never use [however many words these two articles are] when 30 (‘DeMarcus Cousins is a very talented basketball player but also a combustible personality and so the Celtics trading for him could be either very good or very bad for them’) will do.”
If this is what Simmons is going to do with his newfound free time, then for the first time I regret not watching Any Given Wednesday.
Wait, is LeBron block truthering actually a thing? That’s an exciting development.
This is a cheap headline. The reason McCutchen is still a Pirate is because the Pirates still want Andrew McCutchen, and have placed a high enough value on him that other teams that want him aren’t willing to pay.
I wish that had been Bowles’ defense. “He’s a smart guy, I thought he’d figure it out on his own.”
Gotta love Penn State agreeing to restart the Pitt rivalry after 15 years, only to have it cost them a playoff spot.
I agree. It reminds me of when Kelly Olynyk ripped Kevin Love’s shoulder out of the socket and Celtics fans defended him by saying, “oh, that’s just how he plays.” Obviously intentionally hurting people is worse than recklessly hurting them, but recklessly hurting them should still be punished. And if playing more…
Ah yes, in keeping with Deadspin’s longstanding policy of passing along the political opinions of figures in the sports world without commentary.
I mostly agree. “Tentative” was the wrong word to use — others have used the term “play on” call which better captures what I was trying to say. I’m not so much saying officials should be able to make “maybe” calls, just that I don’t think it makes much sense to have some plays be unreviewable because the whistle…
Yeah, the only difference between this and what I’m suggesting is the burden of proof on the replay. It lets the ref make a “call on the field” without stopping play. Then, if there’s no incontrovertible evidence one way or the other, the call on the field — whatever it was — is allowed to stand.
I know the NFL rulebook is already convoluted enough, but should they add some way for the officials to make tentative calls in situations where the official is unsure of whether to blow the whistle? So, on something like the Hopkins play, the official raises his hand instead of blowing the whistle when he thinks…
Been seeing a lot of this sentiment, and I find it very strange. We’ve decided Republicans are our baseline for ethical and responsible government? “Let’s do that thing we said was terrible because people we think our terrible did it.”
