European countries have A TON more quality soccer teams when compared to U.S .But they use promotion/relegation. 49 teams have competed in the premier league.

Because the margins between the teams are so small, it seems to need head-to-head matchups at some level. Even after all those games. Also, this is just opinion of which sports most need a playoff of some kind. Not necessarily the playoff each sport has.

It doesn’t work to compare across sports. Soccer is unique (or close to unique) in that the regular season works so perfectly to determine a champion. Balanced schedule, reasonably large number of games to smooth out randomness.

Most minor league games I attend now seem fully for people who want to spend four innings pumping their kids full of sugar while the kids go increasingly apeshit in the seats.

I do not watch any NFL football, but I eat this stuff up and love it so much.
