It’s less “silencing criticism” as it is “rooting for Snyder as an underdog due to a horrific trauma no parent should go through.” Normally, Snyder is shorthand for “untouchable hack”, but when you consider the deeply personal pain he’s experiemcing, it humanizes him, and you want him to have one small victory.
