Since when is a V8 AWD sedan with a very high level of finish a “normal” car?

You ever drive a FWD car with a limited -slip diff? It feels like you’re defying the laws of physics. I’d take one over a RWD car with an open diff any day of the week.
Mercury Grand Marquis. Smart ForTwo. V6 Charger. Cadillac Escalade. V6 Mistang with the 4.0.
Careful, the fragile fuckboys will call you a “white knight” for this sort of talk.
GTI. Does all of the above, and at the end of the day, it’s just a Golf daily driver which is just fine to run through automatic carwashes without acting like it’s some irreplaceable unicorn car.
I used to be precious about this as well. Years of maturity and growth have taught me that trying to maintain a show-quality finish on a daily driver is a fool’s errand, and if the cobwebbing or swirls are noticeable, a very minor polishing and a fresh coat of wax will set things right. I don’t always take my car…
We know it’s you, Matt Damon.
I’m not so sure. Suggesting cars that actually exsist rather than vaporware seems like sound advice to me.
Those people are idiots, as evidenced by their implying that a BRZ has a frame. It’s a unibody, ya dinguses.
Well said. My initial reaction to the YouRube comments, as well as some of the comments here was, “Well, the clueless guys have spoken”. I’ve brought this subject up several times before here on Jalopnik when commenters immediately make crass remarks about women in pictures or in videos posted here.
Neither have a usable backseat or commodious hatchback.
My first restoration was a 1980 KZ440 LTD. these bikes are simple to work on, and factory parts are still available at your local Kawasaki dealer. NP.
The Bronco II was far from awful. It was extremely capable off road, and was surprisingly civilized on pavement. I miss mine dearly.
The “stuck clutch” is probably just a throw-out bearing, which can be bought over the counter of any parts store in any town in America for cheap. A couple of hours in the garage, and you’ve got a driving project for $830. NP
Not to mention that the Accord’s rods are no doubt cast, whereas the more expensive Type R rods are almost certainly forged. There’s a good reason Honda developed the forged rods, most likely premature failure of cast rods on test engines running 300+hp tunes.
Looks like she’s farting on a Ford.
David, I sometimes question your judgement and I definitely question some of your slap-dashery when it comes to “fixes”, but I must say- you are the finest writer currently on Jalopnik, and your true passion for beaters is noteable. Enviable, even.
1990 Ford Bronco II. 2.9L 6-speed with a very short wheelbase. What a hoot.
I guess now’s the point that I mention that VW offers the GTI Sport with the diff, gears, and suspension upgrade for $3K over the base GTI S, without removing any equipment whatsoever, and including a $1,200 lighting package. . Again, Porsche customers are suckers.
VW offers the same equipment as the GTI Sport, which costs only a few thousand more than the base S model and also comes with the lighting package and keyless entry. The 911T is not a cheap GTS, it’s a very expensive stripped base model. It should cost less than a base Carrera, but Porsche buyers are morons
