RWD would not appeal to those buying Tauruses, and Chrysler had no incentive to pitch the New Yorker or Concorde variants at the Mercury Sable, which was being far-outsold by FWD Buicks.

Why should they have been RWD? One of their key selling points was the “cab forward” design allowed by their transverse FWD power trains.
