All true, but there was little-to-no market for such RWD cars. The LH cars were made to compete with the Taurus. RWD would not appeal to those buying Tauruses, and Chrysler had no incentive to pitch the New Yorker or Concorde variants at the Mercury Sable, which was being far-outsold by FWD Buicks.

Why should they have been RWD? One of their key selling points was the “cab forward” design allowed by their transverse FWD power trains. Jalops by and large don’t seem to understand a whole lot about automotive design or marketing. At the time, customers wanted space efficiency and the safety and traction of FWD,
