Protests have always been confrontational. That’s the point! They don’t call it “Civil Obedience” FFS. Being a civil rights activist in the ‘60s was also confrontational. It wasn’t all kneeling in prayer.

It’s worth remembering that the Panthers were doing a lot of neighhborhood organizing, like providing free breakfast for schoolkids and helping the community out in various ways.
