Probably try io9 for more actual review, this one’s always been sort of tongue-in-cheek.

Positioning is a lot more punishing and important in DotA, LoL is deliberately more forgiving about positioning (I say deliberate, because it’s something LoL’s devs have talked about in the past).
That’s sort of the dumbest simplification. Doing anything well is just ‘doing it as effectively as you can within the given system.’ Making money, curing cancer, exploring space. Literally every endeavor in the world is ‘doing what you can within the given system.
They created rare DLC - DLC with a limited supply. It is pretty insidious and hilarious all at once. The fact that it apparently works makes it all the funnier.
The fatigue comes down to ‘world’ vs. ‘game,’ I think. I played up until that WotLK->Cataclysm bump where the subscribers start to dip, it seems.
Bleck, another rpg with generic boy ‘player insert’ protagonist when he ought not to be. If the crux of the story is the heir and how all the characters met her, why not make her the main character? Do better.
Please no, I wish they’d stop doing Superman/Wonder Woman flings/teases/alternate universe romances. It is always lazy and just done because ‘he strong man, she strong woman, what if date??’ and doesn’t really do service to either of their characters. But especially Wonder Woman’s character tends to get the worst of…
I came down to post this. Also wanted to add that I like the third person shifts because I AM playing a character, and it helps to see that character every once and awhile and remind me of what he looks like, what he’s doing. I’m not Adam Jensen, and the game is never going to convince me through First Person that ‘I…
The Whitlock Saga has become my favorite thing on Deadspin by far, absolutely loved this one and Howard’s last one.
Norman Reedus (the actor who plays Daryl) was attached to the project, yeah.
Some pretty sophisticated opinions regarding AP, have a lot of experience and knowledge in this area, do you?
What, you don’t think she has spares tucked away?
They don’t.
I mean, yeah, because hitbox and what units it collides with changes the way they’re used entirely. Counterstrike and Castlevania are both video games, but ‘similar’ might be stretching it. I’d say if Nidalee’s javelin was a lot more high investment (higher mana cost, higher cooldown, slower moving, and a stun),…
Actually, lockdown makes the mobility all the more important because it makes positioning incredibly important. You get punished for standing in bad spots. Riot has explicitly stated in the past that they nerf things or tone things down because they don’t want positioning to be ‘too punishable’. I’ve played both…
This is a dumb article, and SingSing isn’t a great player (not even the best Mirana player), and tons of people hit tons of great Mirana arrows, but let’s be real. Ashe’s ult has a hitbox that takes like half the screen. If you’ve actually played both LoL and DotA 2, you wouldn’t be making that comparison.
This is a really weird article. SingSing didn’t invent Mirana. He’s not even the best Mirana player (I’d say Chuan is probably the best Mirana player at the moment). Sacred Arrow is definitely a skill shot in every meaning of the word, but it isn’t so hard to hit that it’s unusable by mere mortals.
No, it’s not for real, this article is a ridiculous thing written by a SingSing fanboy. Tons of pros and great players played Mirana before and after SingSing, and have done it better than him. Arrow is a difficult to land skill but it isn’t so difficult that it unusable.
You have to be careful about smoothing out rough edges or amateur design - you risk removing a lot of character and depth. Things like DotA or CS are games that were created by fans or small mod teams and are games that would never have been produced by a major studio as an AAA title, and yet they endure as some of…
That’s how DotA 2 does it. Not perfect, but works out pretty well.
