I mean, someone will invariably say it because it should be said. A lot of people suddenly become freshly minted anti-imperialists when they see it in That Other Guy Over There.

Yeah, this is my position. I’m a long time Dota fan, and it is *incredibly* charitable to assume that twitch chat and the memers have any inkling or care for some notion of liberty. 99% of the time, it’s just sinophobic bullshit - The International in particular has been a shitshow of it since TI2 at the very least,

Could you elaborate on what kind of bugs?  Like, is this game crashing, or ‘clothing clips through models’, or what?

Tales remains the best (and maybe only decent?) writing in the franchise.  The mainline games can be fun to play but man, is Gearbox’s writing and characters a chore to put up with if you are not squarely that particular target audience.

The problem is kinda the opposite with Artifact - it’s actually a little too complicated and too much work for the payoff. I say this as someone who has played so, so, so much DotA. Compared to MtG (or I guess Hearthstone, though I haven’t played that), Artifact is just a massive commitment, the matches are long,

It’s so weird because Avatar is such a massive blackhole. It’s like an ice sculpture, I guess, because it generated nothing of note or interest after the fact and watching it now, the movie is basically laughably bad.

This is what struck me. The numbers are all like “oh, people spent a long time watching Grey’s Anatomy, Friends, and the Office.”. You know what those shows have? A LOT of episodes. Natural breaks that keep the pace breezy. i.e., something you can leave running in the background while you do whatever. Each episode

I know it’s a little confusing, but worth mentioning that Kotaku.UK is a completely different company, owned and operated by entirely different people, and they aren’t even like, brand affiliated.

I know this is kind of a light and breezy post not to be taken too seriously but...

I don’t really place Civ ‘at a glance’ though, and the game is just, not pleasant to look at. Civ 5 has a much more relaxed, lower contrast style - it just feels less aggressive and especially more pleasant over a long session.

They probably both watched Sailor Moon as kids, neon 80's palette Tokyo cityscapes abound. There was even an article here on Kotaku about it!

I love TftBL so much, but seeing Rhys in this trailer actually just makes me worry they’re going mess him up. I do not trust Gearbox writing in the main borderlands games to not suck.

They came out at the same time but Troika wasn’t working on the current-for-the-time Source Engine.

I don’t know about the Source leak, but it’s important to consider also that this was the Source Beta engine. It wasn’t even the Source engine that we saw HL2 using.

I don’t think they’re out of touch with the consumer - I think they are gambling on the fact that they can CONVINCE the consumer to maybe want this enough for it to gain traction, because if this becomes even modestly successful, they’ll gain immense control over the market and industry and can basically hold their

I’m still not convinced on the big consumer draw. I see the merits for a particular niche (someone with fast reliable internet and hardware sufficient for the video or chromecast but insufficient hardware for the games) but that subset seems, at the moment, a little small.

I saw a previous article that stated they expect to use 20gb per hour of gameplay. I figure that meant at 4k etc. but that’s still a lot.
