Sadly, my money is on the producers deciding to stick with the nostalgia crutches and bring the Discovery back to another relatable part of the overall Trek timeline. Either back to the original tineline, a parallel timeline (similar in premise to the Kelvin timeline) or a part of the TNG-era timeline.

100% agree. The original films were successful because they were Wild West / Samurai films set in space. It's the thing I hate the absolute most about Star Trek, a universe that I generally love. 

Interstellar portrays relativity well for someone who skim-read some Popular Science articles about relativity, but it all falls apart beyond the basic concepts. And the plot is full of holes so dense they have their own gravity. 

They promise wealth and power early on to snare people. Like some sort of hybrid self-help book and pyramid scheme.
