27yo Aussie here and I agree. I make about 2.5x median income as a doctor but the combined value of my car and motorbikes barely scratches 20k. I have no idea how there are apparently so many younger guys willing to drop 60-70k on a new truck.

They literally gave you data and you responded with your anecdotal evidence. Neither person said truckers don’t do stupid shit. They said it’s usually cars who cause the problems. The two things are not conflicting.

Yeah, the public is stupid and gives in to pressures way too easily. on paper, looking at income levels of the public, there should be much less people driving $40k+ cars. That should be reserved for families that are making upwards of $200k of annual household income.

I would be considered a “young” buyer and I think that anything over $250 a month for a car is insane. I made the mistake of the $500 a month car payment once when I was a real young buyer. After I paid the car off I made a promise to myself to never have car payments ever again.
