I never would’ve guessed it’d be rectangular.
I never would’ve guessed it’d be rectangular.
Idk is it too much to ask to just be surprised for once?
Sounds about right. Enthusiasts love the cars. I came within seconds of buying a GTI but it got sold from under me. Ended up with a FiST and very happy. Both the best cars for driving (not just transporting one’s self in a car) I’ve ever enjoyed, but the FiST was so raw and go-kart fun that it fit my personality and…
lol was going to say the exact same thing, VW all the way in this category.
Oh boy, those are some pretty pricy GTIs. But really, a Golf R was never on my radar when I was buying my RS. It was bought new in 17, has 44K miles, and been driven coast to coast cross country twice and has had zero problems. Never been in the shop for more than basic maintenance. There is no way I could spend that…
I know the Civic Type R is hideous and is hated a lot for that reason, but driving wise, reliability wise, ergonomics wise, it is a stellar vehicle. So long as you close your eyes.
The Golf R is a fantastic vehicle in many aspects but the CTR was more engaging behind the wheel.
Oh and I didn’t mean to reply to your comment directly, was intended as a general reply to the story. My bad! :D
I’ve owned em all (I’ve got a problem, help?) and so far I’m really enjoying the FiST. The GTI is a great car but lacks personality / engagement, Golf R is fast as hell but has similar problems. RS is fast / engaging but the ergonomics are poor and the ride is brutal. I test drove a Veloster N and it was all-round grea…
As buggy and neglected as the Focus RS is a Golf R is definitely the better choice.
Way nicer car. Not as good in snow.
The Golf R is a blast, but it’s a tough sell over the GTI. The GTI offers more personality - especially with the plaid upholstery. Beyond just launching, the GTI is also a bit more wild to pilot. Golf R is better, but $10k is $10k.
If working from home sticks, I might get look for a barely used 2109 Golf R as I think the 6/72 warranty was transferable.
I’d consider it if I knew it wasn’t hooned, and, more importantly, if the roads everywhere weren’t a potholed mess.
And you can buy a Fiesta ST (arguable funner/more comfortable) than the RS for nearly half the price of an RS. No brainer if you’re stuck on Ford.
Golf R is the ultimate sleeper car. My buddies insurance company (State Farm) does not even know what it is. They just gave him the same rate as a regular Golf (Yes, they pulled the VIN up on the computer).
Before I bought my Gladiator I was considering just replacing my hot hatch with a Golf R instead. Admittedly I did not even look at the RS because I knew it was not a serious contender. The R is a great split between performance and daily comfort. Ultimately I kept my car and added something completely different
Very much yes. The Focus RS is for those might balk at the price of a new STI. The 3 turbo would have to be very good to distract me from all the Golf R choices out there.
Unless you’re driving the car at 95%+ of it’s capabilities at all times, the Golf R is a much better option. The RS is great on the track, but that’s about it.
If all you care about is raw performance, it’s the perfect tool for the job. You just have to abandon good ergonomics and ride quality to get there. I’d 100% take an R over the RS, too.
A Golf R or a Veloster N is gonna be a way better street car. And if you are a diehard Ford nerd, the Fiesta ST is more fun AND comfortable (yes I have driven both.)
